I NEED TO GET MORE TOONY

General
...or, something along those lines.
I've made a lot less weird art over the months, but I still find myself enjoying a good weird snout / growth / proportion piece. And then you get all those funny tingly feelings imagining it:
"What if I had a big fat snout?"
"What if I had thick wide feet?"
"What if I turned into a giant cube?
...but what would I have to eat?"
I'm assuming it's so fun to think about because of how autism affects the senses, and what's more 'sensory processing' than making various body parts 10 times bigger! 10 times more neurons! 10 times more FEEL 10 TIMES EVERYTHING OH YEAH WOO YEAH
I remember seeing a tweet: "I swear I've seen so many OCs shaped like a sensory homonculus*", and instantly thought 'oh yes that seems to link'
* OCs shaped like a model of a human with size linked to the amount of neurons dedicated to sensory processing in that area **
** OCs that are small guy + big hands + big feet + big mouth
So... I think I must indulge in the senses a bit more. The only trouble is it gets a bit difficult!
Part of it is doing a bit of experimenting an seeing what pops up, having big feet big snout is one thing, but what else appears in the imagination?
Mayhaps some mutual indulgence (Snout massage)?
Another topic is artstyle! Think: The Big Bad Fox, TwistCMYK, , anything that presents a new way to mix both 2D and 3D in such a way ends up at the tip top of my everything list, for some reason I go crazy for that sort of thing xD
Well, I say 2D / 3D, but I really mean a style that mixes 'representative' and 'realistic'.
E.g. Simple 3D shapes to represent a character, rendered photo-realistically
I remember screaming with glee when I first saw Bits n Bops, the artstyle made me do a jump for joy
(But you could say that technically all art that isn't photorealistic by definition is representative...
Lineart doesn't exist in real life, but you can pretty easily tell what it's meant to represent. But I'm talking about the real toon biz:)
- The long thing at the end of Bugs Bunny's legs splitting into three divisions? That's his feet. You don't get round feet like that in real life (if only) but you can still tell!
- That fat protrusion on Disney toons with that long black blob at the end... you can tell it represents a nose, even though that's even more far fetched from reality.
- Extremely thick lineart on various parts of the image... yes, that's meant to represent... erm...
It's very nice when it all comes together to make a general effect larger than the lines themselves.
Simple forms with surface detail?
Interpreted idea, realistic execution?
No clue!
Maybe it's a rejection of social rules. I get to go around with my big sniffing snout and my big stompy feet with my big grabby hands doing whatever and being weird all while being totally okay with it :D
And anything that plays into the fantasy really gets me going, I imagine
Does it link to deeper themes of truly accepting my weird quirks without really caring about what others think?
Maybe it's that mixed with other stuff. The Big Bad Fox, not only was the style lovely, it was also dubbed in British English! How great is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I know some of the art I feel like this about shares some similarities with mine (e.g.
possywossy), which I'm sure is like an extra twenty points, I can't deny that bias :p
But anyway! This journal turned out to be more of a thought ramble rather than anything cohesive or planned, but that's the best way to think about things I find
Something for me to look into! I like thinking and experimenting a lot about these sorts of things since it almost always leads to some discovery about how the brain functions and how best to use it in art! My thinkies will continue and hopefully you'll see some interesting result as a result in a month or so hehe
