How Native or Disconnected is your OC to its roots?
General
Simplified.....if your OCs or Sonas have a nationalty, how close are they to their IRL counterpart?
Ill start.
-Sixty:: The chinese Crested has close ties to Mexico, from a dog the chinese "minituized" because apparently the chinese knew how to breed dogs that way.
Its very interesting .
But, Sixty herself Ive made to be Completely American.
Although Ive considered expanding on Mexican and Chinese mixed Heritage. I just dont know what I would do with the Spanish culture that....idk, I think Im mostly just ignorant on it, enough that I dont know what would be good or fun.
The Chinese half is what I kinda feared, where it was mainly fun. Why I was more ok doing one over the other... idk
-Laskey:: He is an Irish Wolfhound.
However, I made him British with very little ties to his Irish Roots. I used the reasoning he mainly lived with his Father, while his Mother stayed back at the homeland. And so, he became more Britsh then Irish.
But I think another part of why hes more british then Irish, is because Ivecbeen more exposed to things in the UK
Anybody else have such details on their characters?

Perhaps my King Cheetah, Sieger, but he’s more rooted in desert themed areas.
But usually there is some sort of influence.
Another one is Malik:: My Crow.
Originally, he was just the Master of Alterie's Harem. But a friend kept trying to get me into DnD, which, Ive lost interest in tying to get into it (after many failed startups) convinced me to look at DnD again, and exploring the Races, I came across the Kenku, which sounded complicated yet very interesting. And then the Aaorckra. I updated and Remade Malik around an idea for a character in DnD. being park Aarokra which allowed him to learn and speak fluent Common instead of just using Mimicry. Then many years later DnD I think updated again to allow Kenku to speak Common. So that's a unique thing taken from his 'rebirth'
Without going deeper, thats a character not inspired by any IRl influence.
Well, beside the Harem thing, but I kinda mostly shifted away from that and replaced it with a Cult concept
If anything, besides DND, I do connect my characters with specific songs to help flesh out what they might look like or act like.
If going with Sieger it’s the song Back Against The Wall by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I find certain music helps me build the characters more, like Chavra my grey cat being designed with the sound track of Shantae the Half Genie game and of the sound track of Fantastic Mr Fox. This ended up with her quirk of going to adventure to adventure, but having the tendencies to exaggerate or lie, and even making a deal with her patron (genie) for the opportunity for magic.
I always try to merge music though with most of the things I think up, sometimes even specific lyrics are what make me bring them to life.
If I ever do get the chance to really get myself an oc that’s perhaps closer to my roots, I wonder if I would end up focusing on my Mexicans side or my American side, or border life side or small town side.
There’s a lot of possibilities for me to create an oc around these concepts, you’ve given me much to think about ^^
Kairie, Sienna, Nemesis, D'Vorah & Uuna have no connection or Roots to anything IRL
I guess I could say the same for Laskey. Heck, Ive gotten more Irish-ish themed art for him, even though he embraces his 'British Half' more.
So I overlooked it, thinking it would be on SFW image.
That was just my mindset

Plum is somewhat Westernized despite her Eastern European roots, although time has partially suceeded in molding populations based on contact with eachother. (In this way, the character is not totally unbelievable.)
If you could do something, get an art piece that is "Eastern European" themed for Plum, what would you do?

I hope you get some sleep! It sounds like you really need it. :0
Depending on the place in Eastern Europe, there's lots to choose from. Plum could dance with the locals, walk with carolers, try local food, or hike to somewhere popular among the Carpathian mountains. :)
Zarek is connected to you in Race (Or now is) And IF you transitioned, he would to.
Would you say thats the most you share, or anything else in lore that you've written that also Mirrors yourself?
(If you feel like sharing at all)
So more Japanese Demon Deer in the future? :P
Oh yes absolutely, Good ol Yokai Deer
Screw the over-rated Rex and Raptor!
Sure you can say a 'Furosnna' is just a representation in the Fandom...but..I feel like thats exactly what a "TRUEsona" is in this context.
But at the same time...I feel like you might be using "True"sona as a Singular Representative Character.
Vern is an Acrador... they are well Acradors. They are the closest to Jackals so... Jackals exist in Africa and Europe alike, but really he is the modern 'paladin'/hospitaller knight archetype. He stands for moral high-ground in a morally grey world.
Ixion is a demonic Hippogriff so there we go again... no exact parallel to any cultures. They pop up in legends and various medias. But given he is tied to Hell, he embodies the noble side of the Goetians. On a plane of existence where everything is based on some sin. Similarly to Vern he is also a 'black sheep' among his peers with different morals.
OH, is Ixion made in-universe to Hazbin? or is he completely unattached to that hellverse?
I considered making a Goetian Owl, but I think Im about done with character creation - from the ground up. Otherwise I have a bird character I haven't uploaded yet (Still working out details) and I considered, just for fun as a 1-shot (Or very short-term) making Malik a Goetia. He already has the eyes and the the very.....snooty personality.
Would you say you'd feel very connected to Egon?
Since he seems to at least share your nationality (If Im reading things correctly)
A very dear person got me onto the Hellaverse wagon, so yes Ixion is related to that universe, but he can just as well function as a Goetian. As they are... well technically just occult entities beyond our comprehension. I already have planned a few of his buddies out, knights and other wardens, as they can be more than just Owls. Sure the main mascot character is Owl but I think there are dozens of cool birds out there to have. So go ham I say! I'd like to see what you come up with.
Egon is closer to the cultural circle by itself. Yes the nationality is similar, but the, Eastern European mentality and central European influence is the best word.
Their struggles (all of them together, as in Ixion, Vern and Egon) are what makes me connected. As they go through day by day. Mission by mission, shift by shift. Moral struggles mean more to me than ethnicity or nationality. Sure they help, but trying to stay 'good' or at least 'remotely true' to your moral compass is what makes them compelling.
When by the end of a day they ask themselves: am I a good person? have I done this or this right? can I do this right? what will I eat next morning? and other more personal questions. I think the most moving - aside of cool helmets - to me is the 'human' part. As every supposed 'action hero' have human moments. Not everyone is the 'tough, brooding, morally grey' type, but actually a sensitive being with their own thoughts.
Damn. Sorry I just went on. Ignore that.
-Lisanndra Gonzalez = She has Strong Latin American Heritage with close ties with those of the Aztecs/Mexican diaspora. She knows very little as her heritage on her mother's side is shrouded in mystery (most of the people on her mom's side...disappeared at the behest of her controlling father). Her father is mestizo Spanish but he hides this fact as all his children are mixed with other canine species (Lisa's is a Papillon, which she only has 1 full sibling with). Her story is actually about connecting to the roots of her absent mother once she sees her father for the man he is.
-Zachariah Jackson = African American. He, like Lisa, has limited knowledge of his African roots simply because he'd never knew his father and rarely sees his paternal Grandfather, Leonardos. His story is more about meeting those that come from Nigeria and help him better understand some of his cultural background.
-Esmeralda "Wolf" Cisneros = She's full Native American but a mix of tribes (Creek = Father, Seminole + Choctaw = Mother) as her actual last name is "Wolf" however she was taken from her Reservation when she was young and was filtered through the foster care system (was NOT treated well) and she lost a lot of her roots as they tried to "teach" it out of her. Her elder sister, Grymhylda, went through something similar but she had more time to learn her tribe(s) cultures and customs.
-Alexander Teller = He's got clear-cut Scandinavian heritage on his father, Joseph Teller's side but he knows little about it as he and his father have a despondent relationship. He knows that the woman he "grew up" with is not his real mother (she's told him this many times), and he learns that he is actually a mix of Scandinavian and Korean heritage. Meaning he 's not a half-Kitsune...but half-Kumiho (which is actually MUCH worse...)
They're all "American" but have ties to other cultures as their ancestors (save Esme) immigrated from various parts of the world. I still have to do CONSIDERABLY MORE RESEARCH but I've always loved the idea of trying to tie in ancestral roots into a character! While none of them are Japanese per se, there's a world-lore trait that ties them all in with things like Yokai and mythological creatures from all over the world (cause I love the supernatural).
So wait, are all 4 American Born? And, maybe I just suck at reading, or Im to reliant on visual commentary, but Lisa is the only one I can clearly see Roots to a heritage beyond Westerner/American.
Always intriguing reads from ya~
And nah you're all good, I'm the same way. It's a bit hard to get certain traits to translate into the furry space (something I try to work on incessantly) but that's also why I try to flesh out their ancestry via names and lore (and weapon names n such). Regarding some like Esme and Alex, there's story-driven reasons why their roots aren't as prominent.
But I always appreciate the interest!
I'll get better at fleshing it out...I hope
But....the culture and population in the fandom has become very....political to put it simply. So ONE person might randomly find something offensive if its a detail that is horrifically inaccurate to a culture...fantasy or not.....and then potentially put you on last and put you on a list...So I get it.
Well hey, good luck on figuring it out!
Try to still have fun with it, despite how stressful it could be!
Titalus is American and VERY American so much so it's concerning.
Roderick is Distilled French, but divorced from France because he's from Pathfinder...
Rodney is obviously English and quite upset about this fact- though he's from D&D.
Jack Omen (my sona) is Irish and incredibly so despite me being an American.
Heneri Keahi is Hawaiian albeit from the Pokemon World so he's Alolan, but he's VERY Alolan.
And that's off the top of my head.
--Makes me really wanna make another Human Male Character. I like -Roderick's- design
--I really like -Rodney's- hat. It interesting to me its a Helm in a Countries Armor
--Im using search to find your characters, Jack Omen & Heneri Keahi didnt pop Up :(
or at least they did, unfortunately in recent years, due to the policies and recent actions of the second term of the Trump administration a lot of them moved back to their native countries on their home planet and only a very few remain on earth.
my fursona Shawn was born in U.T.A in the Skunk Tribe Province before he and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in California, now they're back in the U.T.A and back in their home Tribe
Riana my other fursona, her family immigrated to the United States as well, coming from Valdory, they settled in Wisconsin, now Riana and her parents are the only remaining members of her family left that stayed in Wisconsin while the rest of their pack family went back to Valdory
