Stupid scammers

A scammer reached out to me on discord pretending to be one of the artists I had followed, he tried to spin the whole shebang about how they were the artist and that no one else bided on the ych I had commented on from the original artist so I may as well start the whole process.
I immediately went to the artist page on FA and checked their discord and even contacted the artist themself.
The artist was able to let their followers know, we were able to report, and I followed up and reported the scammer on discord, the email to PayPal, and even to the ftc.
I will never understand how these scammers can even do such a thing, lazy no good ticks.
Glad I reached out when I did to the artist and as quickly as I did. T.T but that wasn’t how I wanted to start a conversation with them, gaaaah!!! I’m glad things went well, I just had hoped that if I did ever message an artist it would always be because I am commissioning them not having to give news like that.
I know I am being dramatic, I just get shy when I reach out to others so suddenly, even if it is for a good reason I always worry. 😭
((Side note: artists wouldn’t message you that easily on another server, they certainly wouldn’t mind if you tell them to ping you on the original post if you ask, or if you really aren’t sure, go to FA and check their socials and even note the artist themselves or contact them in other. Screenshot the convos with the scammer too, and screenshot the account name (discord will have a presenting name and the original user name in the profile) always be careful out there everyone! If you’re not sure, check! And always ALWAYS let the artist know too.))

They count on you never double checking anything, and so they can fool you/lie to you, so they can take advantage of your good will and kind nature, to make easy money off of you.
Your side Note is spot on, ALWAYS double check everything, make sure its all the same.
But also, if you win an auction or message about a commission, yeah, it makes zero sense for them to message you on social media or email you especially if you did not discuss that prior. Or give them that information yourself.
But of course, always double check usernames, and last case, send the artist a note / DM to double check if they are the ones that sent the message.
Ive had a small handful of people trying to scam me. and it almost worked ONCE, ever since then, I dont trust it.
Never feel like you are being over-cautious. Protect yourself, and protect your money.
