My dissertation of '86 Astrotrain

General
Welp, Studio Series 86 Astrotrain is here, got him in my hands, and I gotta say.... I quite dig him. Yeah, this toy's just getting ragged on. Even two of my favorite Transformer toy reviewers; Emgo and PrimevPrime, have had their negatives to say about it. Especially PrimevPrime, since he puts this toy down any chance he gets. -_- I can only imagine Thew's take on this in the future, since he's put out compilation video of the many Astrotrain toys in the past.
Most of the grievances have been the robot mode, and I will say this, yes, the arms are a touch weedy. But hey, like I said before, DNA Design may make upgrades to this. Downside thought though, them making upgrade parts you have to remove during transformation, which does happen. But no, other than skinny arms, I really don't have a problem with this robot mode. Sure, it's not gonna stack up with with the likes of the new 86 Megatron, Soundwave and the new Seeker molds. But also like I said before, this dude's a Triple Changer, something's ALWAYS gonna get compromised. And I do agree with Emgo in his review, Triple Changers should be done on like a Commander Class budget. Even then, nothing's gonna 100% accurate to the show. I mean look at his Astrotrain's cartoon look. Dude's got no feet!
Regardless of that crap, I'm not disappointed in what we got here. Is this figure a nightmare to transform? Hell no! Once you get the hang of it, transforming this guy's enjoyable. And that's where this toy really shines. Both alt modes roll like a dream. And as a train and shuttle afficionado, I do believe they nailed both those looks. Which is more than I can say with the Siege toy. Especially with the big gap-osis the Siege toy had in shuttle mode. Yeah this toy has some gaps, but not as egregious. Maybe that's what happened when the Decepticons fought inside Astrotrain in the movie; things got out of hand and part of his backend got blown up! XD I mean the Toyhax stickers for that Siege Astrotrain does show Devastator shown through a porthole. But I digress, and besides, Toyhax is gonna deliver in the future for this new Astrotrain. ^^ I mean, check out the new decals for the Timelines Samurai Optimus and Starscream. Wow!
Is this the worst Astrotrain figure? In my opinion, no. Though I've only got the two, the 'Dramatic Capture' Siege toy is the best version of that, so I'm gonna keep both those toys. ^^ Just like I'm keeping both SS86 and Earthrise Optimus Prime figures (Again, the Dramatic Capture version is the best version of that Earthrise toy) Is this the worst Triple Changer figure? No, my least favorite is still that Legacy Sandstorm. That 'dune buggy' mode is rough. But even then, there's far worse Transformer toys than that. It's just like the debate preferring the 86 Bumblebee toy with the new Devastation Bumbleebee toy. While I do like both, the 86 toy is more fun to transform.
You don't have to buy it. Nobody's forcing you to. This is all just my opinion on this matter. I'm just giving my two cents on this matter since I am a Astrotrain fan. But yeah, this toy is just so over-hated. So jettison that negativity.
Thanks for your time. ^^

FA+

I thought about it, but seeing him alongside his wavemate who is so much bulkier...
If I find Astrotrain at a discount store or on clearance I'd definitely pick him up.
