I think you have it all wrong. You can set yourself aside from drama without getting involved. Or you can completely immerse yourself and then deny any involvement by trying to play the nice guy. In other words, calling someone names and getting others involved until you get called on it then "try" to get to the bottom of it. Yes, I'm calling you on it. Sorry if it pisses you off.
