Okay, time for my less-than-once-per-year post:
I don’t really like bondage pictures.
“So,” I can hear you thinking to yourself, “if he doesn’t like bondage pictures, then why does he have so many bondage pictures in his ‘Favorites’ list?”
Because I *DO* like horses. And deer, and pretty much all ungulate females.
Horses in furry fandom seem to have a strong association with bondage, probably because real horses are so commonly seen either in harness or under saddle. As for deer, most artists don’t even think about drawing deer until Christmastime, when they are thinking of the deer pulling Santa’s sleigh. So the bondage connection comes up for deer too.
Oh well – I don’t like bondage art, but obviously plenty of other people do. I suppose its my loss that I can’t share their enjoyment.
But I do wish the horse/leather connection wasn’t so strong in so many people’s minds.

I sat down to draw unicorns for a while, but 3/6 feature bondage, and one of them sort of heavily implies it. I didn't set out to draw bondage unicorns, but when I was thinking about them, capture and loss of purity were things that instantly came to mind - a creature that will not approach a non-virgin and also is associated strongly with freedom and an inability to be contained.
I am also a fan of horses, unicorns, deer and similar animals, but don't actually have any sort of bondage or S&M fetish. It is literally just the first thing that came to mind when I decided to explore this subject in my recent pictures. I also do think that bondage is sometimes interesting to draw for technical reasons, and it's requested from me with some frequency.
I guess for regular horses there is a strong association with bondage gear through the similarity with tack and harness, but I agree with you that this common theme is certainly not necessary. Next time I draw horses, I will probably avoid all the ropes and leather.
rl horses? bondage not so cool. I don't do it because I have a connection of horses in bondage, i do it because i have a connection with me in bondage.
As for horses and harness, I don't even necessarily see a bondage connection there. My SL av owns a handful of harnesses as well as a sleigh; my feral version also has a a saddle. To me they're just horse clothes, and while I do give my friends rides on occasion, (SL's wonky physics engine has made for some very entertaining carting accidents over the years) it's because it's a horse thing to do.
I do see what you mean, and now that I've read that I realize there is a ton of it on FA. :o
I think that the bdsm practice 'pony play' also contributes to the bondage in ungulates.
Hmmm... what would you like to see in place of bondage?
I'm a fan of gentle sex, kissing, shared pleasure, and joyful, happy orgasms. Pretty much the exact opposite of BDSM.
