Just draw! Don't worry about how 'crappy' it is. Draw for the sake of drawing ^_^ No one is amazing or perfect when they first start out. Lord knows I wasn't xD I've seen some of the art, artists who sell their art for hundreds of dollar's at AC, produced when they first started, and it was horrific lol BUT they kept at it, never gave up and look where they are now.

This could be you, too, some day. Start out simple, and try different more complicated things as you begin to see/feel that you've improved. Trust me, I know how you feel. I see a wonderful picture in my head, but when I put the pencil to paper ... something not nearly as amazing looking comes out xD

I know you can find tutorials on drawing eyes, hair, and clothes. But as far as drawing actual Anthro characters, just practice! Don't be afraid to post it and ask for tips/opinions. And, you're going to get people who are going to be rude and mean and say horrible things (these are called trolls x3), but just ignore them and listen to the people who are genuine and trying to help you :3 Also, try using this person's gallery for posing your characters:

I've used their stuff and it really does help a lot to have something to look at when you're drawing, especially if you're just starting out :3

Trolls dont get to me at all, ive dealt with far more irl stuff than getting insulted on the Internet, it doesnt phase me.
My girlfriend Maoria draws and she's amazing, so its not just the fact that i can't draw and everyone else seems to be able to.
But that she can draw stuff for me as presents, yet i cant return one of my own drawings to her cause i suck :P

Bah. My fiance says he can't draw, but the way I see it, if you can put a stick person down on a piece of paper you can draw ;3 Maybe not as well as another, but that doesn't matter much when you're just starting out.

When it comes to gift arts, I don't look at the quality of the piece, I look at the message behind it and the feeling put into it by the artist ^_^ And I'm sure your girlfriend would love anything you made for her, so long as it came from your heart.
