The z 5500 are amongst some of the best for a home system set. I'd recommend that for a 5.1 surround sound system.

Razer Mako are expensive, but if you look around you can find them on sale. The z5500s are solid and badass all around.

Benefit of the z5500 = surround sound. Razer? Really high quality, expensive... but 2.1. So it's a trade off. If you have the space I'd recommend the z5500. I went with the 2.1 Razer Makos because I didn't have any way to do a proper 5.1 setup.

I've never heard of the Razer brand of speakers. Would you say that they're better than the Logitech Z-2300s that I have? I've only had experience with a few brands, so I'm not sure how mine would stack up to those.

The Razer Mako are pretty much the best 2.1 sound system that's made for PC/game consoles short of getting into dedicated systems (like assembling your own Klipsch). The downside is they're expensive (I got mine for $220, avg cost $280), which makes systems like the z5500 more appealing to most people since while it's a little more expensive ($300-350) it has 5.1.

But after hunting for the perfect speaker system to upgrade from my Klipsch Promedia 4.1 systems the Razer had the best sound quality I heard. Only downside is it's 2.1, but to be honest... I've not found it made much impact on my gaming experience (if any).

Wow, that's pretty pricey for speakers.. I thought it was a lot when I paid $150 for my Z-2300s. XD Not sure if I could ever bring myself to pay that much, honestly.

I own jsut those speakers actually, theyre veyr nice, deep booming bass.

I threw away my altec lansing speakers late last year. Peices of garbage that they were. Currently I use a pair of headphones laying on the floor that I got for 10 bucks at an overstock type store. They work just as well but have no Hum to them that the altec lansing 2.1 trash had. I also use laptop speakers which work equally well.

I have a pair of Sony MDR-CD580 headphones that are fully lined with cloth, rather than with the regular plastic-coated foam pad. They are wonderful to wear and put everything else I've ever tried to shame. I have no idea why more manufacturers don't make headphones that way!

THX doesn't do muh unless you physically measure out the room and place it in a way following THX's recommendations- you'd be wasting money on something you wouldn't fully get money out of.
What are you looking to do with you speaker system? Bose makes a good desktop speaker. You could hook your computer up to a stereo amp and just use some real speakers if you want.

I've seen several audio experts say that Bose speakers, in any form, are mediocre at best. You pay a ton of money for the equivalent sound quality as a budget FM radio. Unless they've changed things in the past few years (which I doubt), I wouldn't waste money on Bose when I could get superior quality buying any other brand for a lot less.

i've heard their newest thing. it's pretty good. Bose aren't what they were circa 1975 but they're okay- a tad over priced as you said but a far cry better than some stuff.

heard bad reviews about bose , I also considering to get an pioneer amp/decoder which also has an hdmi input , but I maybe be spending a whole lot more , best bang for my buck is what Im looking ..

I've been using the Logitech Z-2300 speakers (2.1 setup) for a few years now, and I absolutely love them. These are THX-certified as well. I used to go through speakers about once a year until I got these bad boys, which I don't plan on replacing until they die. The bass hits decently on the mid setting, and I have to keep the volume control knob between 5-10% to keep from blasting my eardrums out of my head. I experimented by cranking the bass knob to max and jumping the volume to about 30% or so, and holy shit... Logitech speakers are pure Heaven IMO. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Also if U have a good Hi-Fi U can connect it up to the PC via the AUX with a 3.5mm Jack to Twin Phono cable.

The logitech z-5500 is the most powerfull set of PC speakers I have ever seen.
505Watts RMS is huge compared to the normal PC speakers which would be around 6-30 Watts RMS.
If U want bang for your buck get the Logitech X530 5.1 Speakers - $99.00.
If U want extreme power get the logitech z-5500 speakers. - $399
