My dA account has been hacked, and I'm very annoyed about it.
Most of my actual finished art was deleted off it, including pieces which I have only on another computer.
You know I can't help but wonder what motivates these people, hackers that is.
Do they get some sort of pleasure out of random destruction? Mischief, I can understand, writing BOOBIEZ across someone's page is infantile but mostly harmless. This deletion of artwork however is just... Stupid, and pointless. Why do people feel a need to destroy what others have created? Is it merely because they haven't the wit to appreciate it? Or are they jealous of the fact that someone can make art when all they can do is write code. Granted, writing code and stealing passwords is an art, but by all the gods, do something constructive with it.
*snorts*
I know hackers who remotely fix people's computers, and those people I respect for their knowhow and cleverness. But this wanton destruction and/or defacement that seems to amuse so many hackers is annoying beyond measure, and serves no purpose.
Gods I hate destructive hackers...

Thought it was a friend of yours or something that had just gotten on your computer or something.
As for what motivates people... some people delight in damaging others' property. Think of it as digital arson.
Me, I'm much more of a helper... I may get a little mischievous or such at times, but I'd never do anything as deadly as a complete wipe.
Sadly, I think it boils down to the sad fact that some people get pleasure from the misfortune of others (Schadenfreude), and some have no qualms about inflicting said misfortune in order to get their fix. Personally, I think such people are worthy only of pity. It's a sad state where people are in such a desperate need of an emotional boost that they have to resort to destroying the work of others.
*hugs* Anyhow, I hope you've got backups of everything. Take care, Foxie.
