Disclamer: Warning. The opinions expressed in the followig journal are those of it's participents. Anything said does not genrly reflect those of it's participents unles otherwise stated.
That out of the way... On to what's pissing me off right now.
For the (Counts.... 1, 2, 3..) Fourth time tonight in my browsings I have seen the same image. Simply put, it is like every other OC session amoung various artiest I have seen, tho with an aparent unique and nift twist. The arangment of it was ment to look like patchwork. Personaly, I don't SEE it myself, giving that just about all the style that were involved look alike. What's more, one would think that if you trully wished it to look like patchwork, one would not invite individula specific to daw for it, but, rather, have open offer so ture mulitplicity of styles conglomerate to geather into intresting textured desngin, like true patchwork, as, last time I checked, not every one sews the same way, rather then be just another gathering of eletist that would not have there precios digital canvas marred by those unfit to attempt scribles on it. (Not speeking about all of the collected in this case being such, but again read disclamer.)
Now, this pisses me off for allot of reasions, all I have already once or twice stated in previous journals, but that got me to thinking deeper into it. For a melting pot of races, creeds, backgrounds and so forth, we are about as accepting of others as several piles of shit. Meaning, that sure, it all came from differnt places, but in the end, it's all the same, and if something differnt is found in it, you'll notice right off the back.
Or, to put it another way, Think the Borge. Or to a more recent escapad into the hive colective mindset, The Aporoids. One voice leading many many litlte feelers, all devoid of any and all contous thought and should anythignstand up againt this sinularity, it is instantly bad, wrong or needs to be either assimlated or eradicated. Don't belive me? Look at any one image here on wondrous FA and rad down the comments. And please, take note at the abundence of *Generric congratory comment about how much image owns so many internets*. But look at someone that give critique (IF YOU CAN FIND IT!) And look at how swiftly the people or the head of the snake itself will bite the hand that feeds it.
When did we become a singlarity? One mind one voice? (Starts chanting Obey us... And then shakes out of it) If I wanted zombies, I'd play Biohazard. Stop stroking there egos and swelling there heds, and be honest with them. Even idf a peice is wonderfull, and there are many out there that are, something could likly be improved. To be honest will help them more then being roboticly praising.
And that's what's pissing a folf of at this moment.
Update: Working on part 2 of the fight between Our resident skunk angel and our disarmed folfon. Working on part 2 of the playing doc serries. Working on final part of the St. Pat image. Working on a flash for Duo. Working on a differnt flahs for Ian and Glenn. Working on my dragon model once more. Work on... STUFF! LOTS OF IT!

And as for all the OC stuff.. so what? That's a great way for artists to share art and ideas.. I think it's great!
It's kind of a crab mentality. Where you have a bucket of crabs, and if one tries to get out, the rest pull you back in, and I feel that sometimes that if I critique, I will have all sorts of hate spent towards me.
But in another retrospective, I want to have more critiques to improve, but not to the point where it's all critique and no praise.
I don't like to have either of each extremity. I like OCs because all of the drawings usually happen during real time, and they can bring in the OC file to you and you can see the process of their work, which I personally love!
So I agree with you, but I also want to bring a point across that I really hate that most furs will just give praise and some will be overly sensitive to critiques.
It's kind of implied discrimination and favoritism, no matter who you are. There has to be selections, and those selections show favoritism. And I hate it, but I know that one day I will have to do it too.
Tae Yiffer as a good example of how things should be done. Just pops out and offrs anyonethat mesenge them a chance to join if there intrested. Artiest or not.
Although I can think of some people that have way too large of egos, and I can address this also as a main pet peeve of mine, that a popular artist almost always gets positive feedback, without a legitimate comment to really kind of balance everything out.
I hate it in fact, because then the artist is encouraged to create more similar flawed work without improvement, and then they begin to lecture upon others about their own values to people, or how people will always blindly agree with one person to the extent that everyone else that has an individual mind is pulled down.
But because of this, I think that it's difficult to put yourself into a position when either:
1. You are yourself not very good at the art you are critiquing, or you are not as good as them to such an extent. Therefore you contradict yourself to the others, and they will begin to put you down for it, although your advice may be legitimate.
or
2. When that certain artist seems to be moved greatly from a critique, or if there is a bad artist, people will start to get angry at you because you are putting down those that are of less of a benefit than you are. Either this, or that when you just critique in general, or disagree with someone, they may give you reasons as to why you should not comment, or not even look at the art.
It sucks personally, because usually the minority of voices that believe they have something more to say are not able to say it without negative consequence, and when certain artists ask for help, or reassurance, the others begin to praise them greatly, and partially lie to them within themselves knowing well that they too may be put into a position of fear of being pulled down.
It strikes a very controversial issue!
And I also really dislike it when someone calls me stupid, or when somebody tells me that I don't know certain things either, but... That's way off topic and personal. And yet, I post it anyways *sigh*.
And yeah, I was singling out a specfic type of individual. As this is an AFJ. So I get to be mean. ;>
Nothing especially good OR bad about it, eh? At least they're actually drawing something instead of posting a bunch of screenshots of nearly identical poses of something they bought in SL. Now THAT is annoying.
I do agree that people should give constructive comments and criticisms instead of the same generic "Oh yeah I'd hit that" "OMG CAWK!" "I'm favoriting this" crud. Just keep in mind that a lot of artists don't take criticism very kindly. They get all defensive and argue that everything was intentional and that's how THEY like it and if you don't like it you can blah blah blah blah. Don't really understand such blind pride myself.. if I do something I WANT criticism so I can figure out how to make it better. :<
I dunno'. Maybe it's just because I'm tired and my head isn't working right, but I see a certain irony in your statements. These artists are supposedly "elitist" or "selective" by only doing oC sessions with certain people. They're not doing things the way you think they should. They're not following *your* mentality, so what they're doing is wrong. Isn't that kind of funny? You're getting peeved at people for having a "hive mind" but are troubled by folks who don't follow your beliefs.
I just see this as two seperate hive mentalities, just on opposing sides... Then again, that's how life tends to work. That's how wars happen: There's no real good or bad, just people with opposing ideals, so they fight each other.
But, again, I'm half-asleep, so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about. XD
Tho you hold good points. This was more of a standard griping over how one sometimes is not allowed to strum here own tune and have there own views.
I recently, like tonight, had arms with a indvidual over simalar point. Won't get into it.
My point here was more about how flow seems to go. Many people, seem to have been programed now to think a certian way. I'm not saying not to use OC to draw with your friends, but at least from time to time, offer open ones, like the name ugests so others might watch, learn and contribute, and there by, bring down some walls.
And, not too much, please. I'm on a diet. ;)
