Update:
LEASE HAS BEEN SIGNED! Money has exchanged hands, utility company has been notified, & Kwan's a relieved rat. I move next week. I've started packing in earnest.
My poor old dog Maddie (who loathes moving even more than I do) knows a move is eminent, is completely traumatized & clingy, & is trying to give me a guilt complex. I expect I'll be forgiven when she realizes she's a single dog once more.
I was looking for:
- $500 or under
- allows a 15-yr-old deaf dog (35 pounds)
- 1st floor, no more than 5 stairs (dog can't handle them)
- safe area
- vermin-free (definition of 'vermin' includes: ants, roaches, beetle larva, & the likelihood of people breaking into your car/home, crapping in your yard, peeing on your door, and leaving blood on the stairs)
- a fenced yard/plot/patio
- off-street parking spot
- west side of town
I got everything except the last; I'm more central than I care to be. A bit too far from work for my taste, but it seems the closer you get to my work, the more questionable the areas are. But I think it's the best I could do on short notice & limited funds.
Sometimes I miss my friends & family back in Ohio so much that it hurts. I did consider using this whole mishmosh as impetus to go back to Ohio, but I wasn't able to connect with the one avenue I'd consider, and really---I freakin' love it here in Tucson.
I'm reminded almost daily how wonderful it is to live where the landscape takes my breath away. Last week I woke up to a chorus of curve-billed thrashers singing their hearts out. Whenever they stopped, the cactus wrens chimed in. And there was a massive--massive!-- wall of clouds covering the northern mountain range. I couldn't see so much as a rock. It was like a gigantic wall made of huge reams of cotton batting.
I've seen a flat, smooth cloudline, undulating over the mountain range like some vast blanket. Another time there was a spectacular cloud rising behind the mountain range & then crashing over the crags like an enormous tidal wave.
What awe-inspiring sights.
And I get to stay here & see more of it.

Let me know if you need help moving. And once you're in, we can have a house-warming party!

all things considered, i'd say things are gonna work out for kwan. ^^ i'm very happy to hear that! and best of luck with your new place!
i suppose it's natural to miss your family and friends back in ohio... i'm sure they miss you too! TT but kwan makes tucson sound so lovely. maybe kwan needs to get a job with the arizona tourism board. ^^
and by reading the comments, i see your friends in tucson would miss you! i'm sure you'd miss them almost as much as you'd miss the thrashers and the wrens! ^^;
also, the vermin you mentioned... yikes! Oo i really hope you don't have to deal with that, ever again! beetle larvae... *shudder*
8 inches of snow last week, 6 yesterday, and possibly 6 more Saturday *dies*
But I do miss the rat known as Kwan
I'm mean, aren't I? But you can return the favor in August-September when the weather hits the 100's & it's humid from the monsoons!
Srs though grats on finding a place suited to your needs! I signed up for an apartment around 9th/Cherry the other day :D
