The Violin and Licorice Tea
The latter is what I'm drinking right now. Egyptian style, which is very nice indeed.
I've recently managed to repair my infirmed violin. Besides requiring basic maintenance, it had a broken tuning peg that I doubted I could mend myself.. but the precarious device somehow allowed me to save me a trip to the professionals. Because really, paying 25+ Euros for an instrument that cost me 50 Guilders is a bit of a drag. Just like the proper string job would be - a bit ridiculous. But budget violin strings exist too, though I needed to ask Thomann.de for them (3.50 instead of 38.-), and as such I have this beautiful piece of musical mayhem - with a strong emphasis on mayhem - operational again for the first time in 8 years.
Now I just have to think about what to do with it. I somehow doubt I have the passion required to really master it and do it justice. And if I do get that going, I think I'd prefer a proper one anyway, instead of this old, rugged torture wheel. That's why I might give it away to my Japanese Golfers friend Ethereal (who played it when he was at my place). I would've done that for sure if I hadn't managed to get around the tuning peg issue.. but for that occassion I decided to fix it as well as I could and ended up with a full repair where I didn't expect it at all. Now I'm unsure what to do.

Now that's quite a problem there, what I'd do is use it for peculiar recording effects, forget it as an instrument, place a microphone in there and use it to record things with the added resonance that can be gained from a violin body. You can get a lot of cool feels by recording things like that!
I'm a big fan of Moroccan mint teas myself. The licorice tea I've got is from Yogi Tea, so it's not some ultra-rare phenomenon.. you should try it out. :3
I'll have to, but I'll have to go back to Europe (or hope that they have it in the capital or the supermarket)
Nice tip, there.. though I don't think I want to sacrifice this instrument. I might give it away though. The resonance is the main thing with the bass, yeah.. and it's really warm and pleasant in tone. Pretty tough to match. :)
The microphones got stolen when I took them on a plane - along with my portable recorder. The corrupt bastards.
Learn to play it kiddo.
