yee, i loves Tarot Cards! i got Robin Wood Tarot. i came THIIS close to getting the Vampire Tarot.

start at the beginning if you're gonna read it, but the early art is by a different artist. good. but not as pro as the new girl. gawd, she's awesome. the way she draws Banquo's face makes me make pervy faces when i'm not thinking about it.
but, no, the Robin Wood Tarot has Rocket ships and my fave Pagan symbolism and it RULES. not that i'm plugging it. if you're gonna do Tarot, yahs gotsta pick a deck that fits you. that's why i didn't get the vampire tarot. i love gritty Vampire stories:

(i laugh at the comments under these SO hard, especially the critic. criticism makes me laugh SOOOOO hard. i also laugh at how bad it looks. it does NOT improve much, no matter how many pages she makes, bless her heart. XD don't tell the author, she dosn't know i exist and i DO like the story))
but ultimately, i'm too damn hippie/sugary/innocent to be reading tarot that has blood and death on almost every card... /*--* but that would be SO bad ass.

so, here's to being PAGAN~! WHOOP! you know what THAT means! =D if you piss me off, i'll fuckin' hex your ass into submission. you see, the universe likes me. i wished i could rip a conservative bumpersticker off an ugly, Sarah-Palin-esque car, and what happens a few hours later? one parks right in front of me. Marriage was meant for people in LOVE dammit, not just people who want to make babies. see, the universe GETS that. X3 there is greater good in vandalizing retard's bumper stickers. no offense to people who really DO have an IQ less than 70. peace.
but honestly, don't make me want to hex your ass. ;P
also: my people love cats. come to the frilly side, children. we have magic. and wands. and... a Female God. and a Male God. Honestly, it's all about the God and Goddess with us, i mean, kool, but.. =P i want a Religion where god is a gay man, is that too much to ask? SRSLY. well, she could be a lesbian, too. no, she should be Bi. fuck it, i want Alger to be my god. he's Pan sexual, all loving, forgiving, dosn't get into fights with people on the internet, and 100 times more man than me. =P well, no, but. and: sorry, i only know what i know from my one English friend who's been pagan for at least 30 plus years and she said not to trust books on the subject. or at least not to trust books on magic. and i was kidding about hexing people. because i don't know how and even if i did, that'd be the dark stuff.
i wasn't raised Pagan and i don't know anyone around here who could teach me stuff. but please don't encourage my flammers.
Now, perhaps your friend was saying not to read books by Silver Ravenwolf--this is good advice. While she has some good basics, she's so riddled with prejudice and fluffy sparkly nonsense most of her writing just ends up crap. I personally reccommend authors Scott Cunningham, Raymond Buckland, and Starhawk, to name a few.

Handy little site. There's also Witchvox.com for essays written by its members on all different kinds of topics. Lot of good reads every week!
I didn't mean to come off sounding like a butt in my first comment up there; misinformation just gets my goat, ha ha. It's sometimes hard to tell when someone's joking or not on the internet.
PS I have the Tarot of the Cat People deck and wouldn't trade it for the world <3
the one i got borrows from the classic Raider deck, but has more Pagan-rific stuff in there and some other modern ideas, too. like, alot of the images seem like something a hippie would have had painted on their van in the 70's. just epic, epic rock-star-esque stuff. i LOVE this deck.
also: thanks for the resources. i never claimed to be a REAL knowledgeable Pagan. i just go off instinct most the time. there's so much info out there, it's all very daunting. on top of that, my parents are dead-set against Pagan stuff, i live under their roof, have no job and no car, so the books will have to wait.
also also: i know what you mean about the posers. i'd hate to be viewed as a poser. i've ALWAYS wanted to be in on this stuff. but i know i'm not very mature yet, so i'm trying to take it slow.
There is a website that lists most, if not all, decks available, usually with preview images of some of the cards. I believe its aeclectic.net or something along those lines. I would check but my internet is fairly shoddy and unreliable right now (brother fucked with the settings and changed passwords so I can't access them ~_~ ) If it doesn't come up, just punch it into Google and it'll correct any spelling mistakes.
Ha ha, I don't claim to be a fully fledged, know-all, end-all source of pagan knowledge, I'm only a couple years into study, but I know some basics and where to look for info. No worries if you can't get your hands on any physical books yet, life stuff comes first. In the meantime you can still cruise the web for info. You may be able to find some books to download online in .pdf format, too, if you know where to look. I myself have a large collection of various "occult" e-books, including some on the Tarot. I can dig through them and send you a few, if you like.
I think I recall you saying somewhere that you didn't like Livejournal, but I reccommend you lurk around some of the communities like Wiccan (community.livejournal.com/wiccan [I'm fairly sure it's wiccan, though it could be just wicca. Once again, crap internet, can't check for you :c ]) and Solitarywiccans (community.livejournal.com/solitarywiccans) Just sit and read some of the posts and the advice people give, and maybe join and ask a question or two if you have any. I will warn you some members can be kinda harsh in their advice-giving, they tend to have a no-nonsense approach, but even if it sounds mean spirited it's quite good advice. People often say, "It's not called the Craft of the Nice," and they mean it, heh.
also yeah, not too happy with live juranal. i guess i just have to learn how to navigate it. i used to hate Ygal for the same reason, but now i'm pretty much fine on there, so i guess it just takes practice.
also: cats!
XD i always wanted a cat when i was little, even though they didn't like me. then, i was a dog person for a wile, now cats LOVE me. even cats that usually don't like most people. that dons't mean i'm not still a dog person. i love all animals. especially bugs. XD bugs are kool because so long as you're not trying to kill them, they act extremely tame. unlike birds. =P and pretty much ALL other wild animals.
