utter dismay .. XD

Ok now I got the HD 5870 I was expecting it to run all of my games on it's highest settings .. which it does , except for some games that requires Physx . Although Dirt 2 and MW2 looks great , Mirror's Edge and Batman AA suffers a bit on it's frame rates when Physx is enabled .
any tips on how to fix this ?
specs are
CPU : 8400 not OCed
6gb DDR2 800
HD5870
Vista 64 ultimate
Funny how my old 9800 gt 1gb runs all my games on high as well ..
anyway what should be the proper resolution should I be browsing / gaming on a 32in HDTV . I'm currently using 1080p in 60 hz , but I feel that I'm doing it wrong .. XD
Batman Arkham Asylum disables it's AA features if it detects a non Nvidia card .
Mirror's edge seems to run a whole lot better if Physx is disabled . I read somewhere that it utilizes the cpu ( which has poor multicore support ) for Physx support for non nvidia cards .
Nvidia dont mind fragmenting the PC gaming market, confusing users, frustrating developers, and being anti-competitive, just for the chance to sell you some shitty Nv card.
Now, here's what I know (I'm no VGA pro, keep in mind plz):
Physx is a nVIDIA software thing, so even if ATI cards are compatible (I haven't seen any that are, but I don't really look for any, so what di I know :P ) they should preform a bit worse than nVIDIA cards.
Tried the ATI 3D settings? You know, where you setup the graphical detail the card is set to process. Sometimes you need to enable extra stuff to get better performance or better detail...maybe there's some option there for the Physx thing.
I personally use the 4570 Mobility Radeon, which does not support Physx, but I have a pretty high framerate on Mirror's Edge...don't really know much about the ATI 5xxx series, so other than this I cant give any other advice.
