They're firing the canons!
They've (I mean we've) been firing the canons for hours now. At first it was a lot, between every few minutes. That was around midnight. Now it's 430am and it seems like there's been one going off now every 20 or 30 minutes.
The things they are firing are illumination rounds, basically flares. Only things fly for about 10 seconds before they ignite,, so they're maybe a mile or two away? Then they float down on a parachute for a good minute or two, and they're so bright that the shadow looks like a good moonlight shadow (from here)(and orange).

Not sure, really. It's actually the Canadians that shoot them, IIRC. I don't go down to that part of this FOB very often.

IIRC (again) I think someone called them triple-sevens. They certainly do have louder rounds.

Yup, that's them. I wonder if they have any GPS rounds. Guess I'll just have to keep wondering, because I'm too lazy to ask.
