Who be hatin'?

Several people. I won't name names... but I know a lot of my friends and people I watch make them... and other people I watch are bitching about them, saying they're cheap or stupid or have very little work put into them.

I just want the hating to stop so I don't see it in my submission/journal inbox. =\

there adoptable looked like a blob with big ears and a whispy tail, can't remember if it had a ball at the end or not..... they're about average skill on their adoptables

Hmm... well, instead of ranting about those kinds of people, I just watch as no one buys their adoptables because they're not worth the money.

I don't understand why everyone hates them so much...Just can't figure it out.

Me neither. =\ They didn't kill your father, nor did they rape your mother.

I think personally that its their lack of creativity or their want to cause a fuss in general.

Well, like I said in some other comments, they often think the adoptables are "cheaply made" or are being made JUST to make money, without any thought being put into the creatures you're making.

It may be true for some people who make adoptables, but it certainly isn't true for all adoptables. I've seen some great ideas for races and such made into adoptable form. And it isn't like they're asking for $20... they want like $1-5 usually... which is chump change.

People just need to stop bashing and just deal. =\

Hmm... maybe... but there are so many better things to bitch about... things that matter. Like taxes... the government being corrupt, the school systems teaching kids wrong... etc etc.

Bitching about something you have no control over whatsoever, such as what someone else draws, is such a waste of energy and inbox space. =\

Aaww yeah that is true :/ They should do that instead - I never thought the adoptables was a bad idea, but I guess many disagrees :/

I honestly don't know what this adoptables thing is all about. What they are and what their purpose is. Aside from the obvious mission I gather of being adopted.

It's like creating a new species (since most good adoptables are creatures never before seen) and if people like the species and want to have a character of that species, they buy it from the creator for $1-5.

It's like getting permission to make a character of a species someone else created, only you also get a character all ready with color patterns you like as well. It's win-win, if you like how they draw their creatures (which is often the case).

I don't think anyone had problems with adoptables back when they were "free to a good home," but once someone popped a $1 icon on there, people got butthurt cuz the artist is making them pay for it. As if $1-5 is going to break the bank or something. =\

I agree there oO Hell, I did a series of free ones before throwing some up for money. And anyone who thinks they don't take a lot of effort is pretty unobservant.

Or they only see people making them poorly instead of seeing the people who actually work on their adoptables and put effort into them. =\

*nods* all adoptables, when done well, do to make design easier is give you the basic lineart @_@

Okay, I understand them now. I can see how it would be good and also how they can be a flood of terrible too. I'm still on the fence regarding these. It's not something of interest to me, but to others it might be just right for them. I must confess that I've seen so many that lack if I dare say, effort. Typically when they pop up in my inbox a glance over the thumbnail, read the "adoptables" title and simply delete. There seems to be so many of the lately it's almost becoming like bad meme.

There is that, and it's true. Hopefully they'll die down to a dull roar when people realize it isn't a cash cow and stop trying to milk it. =\

The idea behind them is good. I'm sure they'll balance themselves out in time, but I feel that they may eventually just become another version of commission work with the exception of them being pregenerated rather than referenced to create. Still, the idea of being able to get a character to adopt from particular artists people admire for a bargain price without having to go through the creative process of generating them themselves may be convenient for some. I suppose if there's a demand or desire for them it works out for both parties involved.

Anyway, best wishes to those that choose to do them.
