Been enjoying my time home

I must say, I have been really, really enjoying my time home. Still...all the time home I have been given is a bit worrying. There was talk that I may end up being given a discharge for inability to serve. I DID clear everything, yes, medically and psychologically, but I was out of service for a very long time, longer than most would get away with. I had to fight tooth and nail to remain serving because I don't want my military career ending already. I feel I have done a lot of good in helping get certain personnel-centric and civilian safety policies implemented, and I genuinely feel like a connection between rank-and-file and the brass that can be counted on. I've mediated countless policy shifts to get Army out of its old 1970s school of thought and into the new age of warfare, to be effective not just against a nationalized enemy but an irregular enemy as well. Most recently, I was called to sit in on a hearing involving the changing of Army training techniques. I agreed with the shift to change the cross-country runs to quick, short-distance sprints and to remove bayonet training; Army soldiers don't even have the holders on their rifles to mount a knife anymore, what do we need to train soldiers in the use of a bayonet for?? And nowadays, soldiers need to be swifter and stronger, moving from cover to cover in small areas, than they need to be bulked and meant to go jogging 25+ miles.
Army training policy has been too soft and has not been preparing our boys and girls in uniform properly for modern warfare, and I'm glad we're making headway.
Damn, this was supposed to be a journal about the time I've been spending at home, not a professional reflection.
I've been spending a bunch of time with
lunargraced and even some time with
creedofheresy whenever we can get the chance. I've been exercising a cramped, sore creative muscle, too. I've been painting a little bit, partaking in the age-old internet tradition of roleplaying (One of the best ways to distract and entertain oneself, and a great way of warming up the left brain), and I've been barhopping a little bit, partaking in the happy pleasures of the company of women who are kind enough to listen to a grizzled young veteran's tales with actual interest. (Laughs)
Ok, enough rambling for now. I just felt like updating this account, because it has been a while since I last did so.
