Blow to the Ego
"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
-William Shakespeare
For those who do not like to lend an ear to the relieving of stress (for one to rant a bit rather than let it stew in the mind), I recommend you leave now. For those who understand, I thank you for your consideration and your time. It is greatly appreciated.
So, I get home from work (a temporary job, but work is work and I just can’t seem to find any money trees at home depot to help with gas money) and notice in the little notice area in the upper left several new submissions and journals, which I expected from not seeing the site for 18ish hours. I also see a “1F”. I’m thinking “F, that’s new. What does that mean?” It only took a moment to realize that it meant a new Favorite. I was quite pleasantly surprised, and it was a huge boost to my mood. I’m not a very social guy, and really joining a community like this and actually truly participating is something new to me. So I click on it to see who Favorited what and to send them a Shout of thanks for making my day. And I see it’s…been removed by the poster.
Now, I’m not here to bash whoever it was in any way, shape, or form. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and as I say, “to each their own.” But, I just don’t understand why somebody would Favorite one of my stories, and within a 24 hour period rescind that Favorite. What caused them to change their mind? Did they like the premise, Favorite, read the piece and decide they didn’t like it after all? Did they somehow click +Favorite by mistake because they meant to hit Older? Is it just some troll being cruel (very highly unlikely given the number of great people on this site from numerous comments I’ve read from users around the site)? Even now I feel that I might be blowing this out of proportion a bit, but it was a pretty big hit to my ego, especially considering until this none of my works for any reason (barring the Young Writer’s Society of which I am no longer an active member) have been seen by anyone outside of family. Mind you, I am not going to stop writing because of this. Give me a couple days and odds are I’ll have forgotten all about it.
Well, I feel better for having expressed that, and it honestly feels like a load off my chest. I hadn’t expected that, and I’m pleasantly surprised. If you just sat there and read all of this, thank you, regardless on your opinions of my views. Okay, deep breath, and release. And now, I think I’m going to relax. Maybe play some Final Fantasy XIII, work on some D&D adventures for possible future DMing, or just continue the saga of Kriv in The Civilized Savage. Thank you, and good night.
