I had to do it

This is only loosely related, because it reminded me. But I don't normally play into all these stereotypes.

My mate and I were running errands a few weeks okay, it was fairly nice outside, and we noticed this black guy (one of the few in Utah ;;>.>) walking down the street with a bag of KFC.

It made me giggle a little. But I don't even know WHERE these fried chicken/watermelon stereotypes come from. I just know that, for whatever reason, it's the butt of jokes everywhere.

For the most part, though, it's just people being assholes. I loves mah skunk *hugs*

F-ing gollywogs. That's just screwed up, and I heard someone called Naomi Campbell one of those, and she's really pretty.

Gollywogs were originally a part of a story by an english lady about her child-hood dolls.. the term gollywog had a mixed history, apparently having to do with tadpoles, something like polly = head, and waggle, which was shortened and changed over the years to wag, to wog. and the polly became golly with the eyes which were noted as suprised, thus the 'golly'.

This place is a cess pool, that's really all there is to it. The anonymity of the Internet combined with the general social awkwardness of anyone that spends so much time on it leads to an absurd amount of insensitivity.

What bothers me more is the people who try to defend it, like it's ok that they do it cause they "have a black friend" or some other bullshit.

I don't say those kinda jokes -because- I have black friends whom I think very highly of.

I have to agree on this point; visit any internet site talking about anything having to do with something even remotely controversial and, if the site allows comments, I bet that there are a few that are out-of-the-ballpark (and this is being nice. Look up videos on youtube about X political/social topic, especially if it's comedic commentary, and you'll probably depress yourself with the number of basely disgusting comments people will make). Not having to look the person you're talking about in the face seems to make people into real jerks. Hell, play an online video game with in-game chat and you'll definitely find it; you'll get called racial epithets that don't even apply to you.

To continue with my essay(:P), I feel I must say that I have laughed at them in past. Situationally, I can find them to be light-hearted and funny (that is, around friends). I suppose I hate the trolls more than I dislike the jokes themselves and would hope my friends don't go around throwing the jokes out at just anyone (as that would make them trolls). There is a certain amount of discretion that can make them alright.

I've been on the internet for a while, but I wonder why a FURRY website would be so easily compared to 4chan or that encyclopedia drama website thing. Though I guess there's plenty of this same thing on places like Game FAQs, it's just not as blatant or "edgy."

People think being edgy is cool, that making a racist or homophobic comment makes them cool because IT'S SO TABOO. I can bet a large number of those people claim that they only make those jokes to make fun of racists. Because making a blackface joke with no hint of irony = satire, apparently.

I can hedge a bet that most of them are either drug addicts or under the age of 15, too. Seriously, they just want to stir up shit because they are sad on the inside and want to feel important and "better" than someone.

Ya know, like when you get to be close friends with someone, you stop saying shit thats actually funny but they still chuckle at it anyways. You don't put effort into the humor any more, just expect the sentiment to be understood. Difference being in this case, that people just want to also be accepted to some degree, since its far less intimate online and a lot more anonymous.

I believe some research was done which proved that people who enjoyed racist jokes tend to be racist; in other words, people think the jokes are funny because they think they're true. So much for "I'm not racist, I just think the jokes are funny."

I know everyone hates everyone, but I just wrote this journal because recently I found lots of LOLblackpeoplecan'tswim jokes and crap like that. To be fair, I did find an LOLJEWISH thing too. I wasn't even looking for these things, they just kinda showed up. D:

The more we make jokes light hearted, and funny, the lesser evil bearing they become. It's good to laugh at these. People who get mad at this stuff, are just as ignorant as the people saying it, if the people saying it are being ignorant to begin with.

If you laugh at a joke, it's a joke.
You are get angry at a joke, it's an insult.

I'm just a little frustrated is all. I've experienced actual racism, and seeing it just thrown around for a "cheap laugh" really makes me feel off. Though it's hard to feel the difference when I see a racist comic or something or if I go someplace else and see something that is completely racist with no intention for comedic effect. I thought that people were "not as racist" as before, but once they have anonymity they could be speaking their true, shallow-minded selves rather than just "joking" around.

Yeah, In general people can easily be assholes when it comes to anonymity. However I just look at it like bullying. If you get angry at it when you're the target, you're letting them win when it's name calling and stuff. Laughing in their face would technically offset them. I think the same could be applied to racism.
