They tried to rip me off for $18,000.

On Thursday of last week, my tooth and myself had a long discussion during the night about the need for me to finally see my dentist and get him fixed. I scheduled an emergency appointment with a new dentist, since my old dentist was not listed as a provider by my insurance. They prescribed a treatment plan for me that cost $20,000. Later I examined the plan and realized they had ordered a crown for every tooth I had with a filling.
That seemed a tad bit excessive.
So I went back to my old dentist. I've known him for a while. He is competent and he does not jerk people around. If he says you don't need a root canal, then you don't need a root canal. And if he says you may need a root canal if your tooth doesn't respond to treatment, then you may need a root canal if your tooth doesn't respond to treatment. His prognosis was that I would need one root canal at most, and that was probably not necessary. That's a lot better than three root canals. And he said I'd need two crowns at most. That's a lot better than twelve.
And his $2000 estimate is a hell of a lot better than their $20,000!
I came there in pain, and they tried to take advantage of me. Fuck them. You have to be some kind of slime to pull that kind of shit.
I hope that when they die, they are shown the pearly gates and given a horrible toothache... and are told the dentist will be happy to fix it... The price is they have to give up their pass into heaven.

Like I said, they were just trying to rip me off. They were doing a lot of scare tactics and pushing me to buy a lot of treatment really fast. Now that I'm out of the immediate rush of the situation, they really gave off a "used car salesman" vibe. (No offense to your roommate, who seems extremely legit) It doesn't help that I was so pissed I told the staff of the Subway I was having lunch at to never go there... and the woman behind the counter immediately commented she had gone there in the past and gotten terrible service from them!
My broken tooth is the one causing me the pain, and the good dentist thinks a simple medicated filling will fix that. I already knew it would need a crown, just because there's not enough left of it to rebuild from. With my insurance, I should only pay $1000. Much better.
