"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."
-William Shakespeare
I do believe I have found a great help against writers block: don't write only one thing at a time! As I've mentioned earlier, I'm working on a novel that I hope to have the first draft done by the end of the year, my New Years resolution actually (that I came up with in within the last couple weeks). But while I'm doing that I'm also writing short, one scene works in an episodic format that I've been posting here, such as my story "The Civilized Savage", detailing the important events in the life of a gnoll named Kriv, and now a (somewhat) darker story entitled "The Devouring Shadow", of which I have the first draft of part two now done. Working on a mini project alongside a larger project I've found really keeps the creative juices flowing, as it winds the mind back and forth across more numerous paths, and also helps me feel productive when I have a hard time continueing the story of my novel. I find it a really interesting concept, and now that I think about it, I'm going to go look and fantasy and sci-fi magazines and see if any of them might be interested, granted the "scenes" aren't too long for thier submissions. It could really work well for magazines. So not only do I minimize writers block, I could get myself credibility as a writer before I finish my novel. Score!
