Today At Work (The Best Day Ever)

Hey guys!!
Well!! Some of you may be aware that I work (or worked) at a certain popular video game sales chain. Actually since 2006 I have worked for them and as of today I was relieved.
Every morning, when you work part of the management, you are required to count video game systems ( playstation 3's , Xbox 360's) what have you, mainly because if you are missing just one, you suddenly have up to $300 worth of shrink. In these small stores that can be a problem and it is important that you keep track of these things. Well since we have faulty technology I count all video game systems by hand. Upon reviewing this on tape I am grilled by both the district and regional managers. Trying to force me to say I was "Falsifying reports"
My store manager and I knew I was going to lose my job. While it's a change, it didn't really bug me. It's now more of a kick in the pants to either up my anty doing freelance art ( as I have been doing) or get a better job.
So I was pretty happy today. I went in to talk to my district manager who was going to inform me that I was going to be relieved of my job. Being... fully aware of this, I didn't go in to attempt to defend my job, position or what have you... I went in to say exactly what was on my mind.
"Let me tell you a little story, " I began, " about a young guy, in the middle of college who went from a smaller computer company to work at this store. Upon receiving his management position, a month later he was held at gunpoint for a playstation 3. He was never offered therapy or anything. He simply went in to work the next day without complaining. Each raise he recieved was always just before the minimum wage would go up and was never factored in when that happened. You know how much he made? Today he makes $7.50 an hour and he's part of the management. He was making 25 cents more than minimum wage. And now, after making a simple mistake, one that has not caused the store any harm, any loss of product, he's been forced to admit to something that isn't true, and without even a simple corrective measure he's being fired.." I started to laugh and take my store and lock keys off my key chain, " You know I didn't come here today to defend my job. You can keep this place and this company. See I came to terms long.. long ago that just about anyone could do my job and that I was very easily replaceable....and so are you..." I smiled at him, handed him my keys and walked out the door.
I shook hands with my Assistant and Store managers ( Both of which are awesome people) And headed to the door, I looked at my district manager before I left and looked him straight in the eye. I smiled, laughed, and walked out.
My manager called later to say "You really got to him somehow. He was shaking and said you were a real dick." My manager was pleased since he never liked our district manager either.
So anywho, please dont' worry about consoling or anything, i didn't post this to get sympathy, I really just see this as a simple opportunity and reason to get a real job. And I finally don't have to put up with that place anymore.
You know what's funny is, outside of very few.. I've never really been into video games.

being that I'm out of a job for the moment and I'll have to apply for unemployment, I'm going to have to step it up on commissions so yes...

But wow! 7.50 an hour? I'm afraid to ask which state this is in. Here it's 8.25, and most starting wages are above that.
Our store was one of the busiest in the area. I laughed as I left. I still don't regret it, even though I'm not living in the best circumstances now. That company is the most disgusting one I have ever worked for.
I hope you find work! Not everyone can even get a job to be miserable at.
Actually i've had really dickhole supervisors i'd LOVED to have said stuff like that too.

In a pseudo-related story, our cafeteria woman decided to leave, and it wasn't on bad terms - but she was realizing that she wanted a bigger challenge, but wasn't getting it by working the cafeteria. However, the reasoning she gave herself is that by forcing herself to quit, she would be kicking herself in the ass to expanding her horizons and working harder for her own ambitions.

What am i paid?

The issue was the fact that at the time, my mother was basically dying. Totally long story, let's just say that whenever a doctor told her to do something, she didn't. Since my dad was living up in north Jersey at the time for his job, and my brother was working stupefying hours himself and living about 20 minutes away, I was the only one living at home, and I had to be there to take care of her at night, meaning I could only work closing once a week, and even then not every week.
How does this factor in? Well in order to be a team lead, I'd need to close at least two nights a week, and come in for opening the next morning. Each time. Obviously kind of hard to do when I'm helping my own mother even get around the house. Well, unfortunately, she ended up passing away.... And two weeks later I started where I am now.
When the head of HR (who, honestly, was actually quite nice) asked why I was going, I said "Well, while it's slightly less work an hour, it's not only a guaranteed 40 hour week with only one day of a half-hour overtime a month, but it's a set, solid schedule, not having to check the board every friday to find out what I'm doing next week!"
looks like your manager didn't hear the truth like this since the hot gal at school told him to hit the road. :) clearly, telling the truth makes you a dick.
the one single true advantage of being a worker-for-lease (what is my occupation since the last 8 years, and it sucks) is, that I don't usually have to put up with inept superiors for long. I can call in sick, or call my boss explaining things and tell them to give me another job, or my papers, and simply walk away.
...I know a certain company that's hiring right now. I know it's no where near home, but who knows where it could lead? I do hope you find something in your field though.
