Ooh... that can be kind of sticky, as GM does sell artsy-type prints of their cars. I would guess, though, that by removing all recognizable trademark emblems and names, you'd be ok. They'd have to prove you were attempting to make money from their product without permission or an agreement... but without those emblems, who's to say it's not just a concept vehicle of your own making? Heck, there's been hundreds of those exotic car conversion which look remarkably like their real inspirations.

Further, I don't imagine you'd be selling these by the millions and millions, as the Chevrolet division has sold the F-body Camaro.

But as a safeguard, I feel it'd be wise to contact someone from GM's legal division and ask.

As long as you're not using the trademarked name and logos, you should be okay. There's a whole subgenre of hot rod art, and nobody in there is really bothering with getting any sort of official okay.

And some of them even use the logos and names.

well ma'am... logos and trademarks are really nasty things... probably the manufacturer would not mind or maybe they can trigger their legal departement and sue you till the last dime... not very confortable on your situation atm... so my advice would be to use the car as a reference but do some sorts of variations on it so it would be a all new design of car...

I always thought you could draw a car and leave off it's logos and alter about 20% of it from original it was deemed ok.

So far as I know, it can't be exact, but it can be very close. Shave/change the logos and change the body a little bit and you should be fine. :)

cross a camaro with a mustang and change the logo to a knotted dog penis and you should be good.

Okay, honestly, I don't know the answer to this, but I'm sure there HAS to be some site out there somewhere on "teh interweb" that has the 4-1-1 you seek.

Have you tried Googling or Wiki-ing fur something like "car design patents", or "car design copyrights"? Maybe even ask.com perhaps?

I gotta believe that as long as you change the look and/or logo

you'd have to sufficiently change the design that makes it a copyrighted design. like, make it resemble a Camaro, but not me one. sort of like what they do in certain video games that feature cars like Mustangs, but aren't
