Ya make a real good point at the end Foxer but...FYI...it's not just shmucks in the South as you put it that are complaining. The whole country for the most part has turned a blind eye to this very same issue over in Africa. Don't lump us all together down here. We're not all ignorant for the rest of the world around us.

There's also the E-waste (electronic waste) that ends up overseas and causes pollution as it's dumped overseas for salvage.

There's massive air pollution from China's power plants that burn, in most situations, the packing foam used to protect TV's, VCR's, Computers and other electronics during shipment.

... and I know this is a fact, because a relative of mine used to work for a garbage plant.

You're right i shouldn't say schmucks; however, in matters of environmental justice, one can no longer think regionalistically.

What I've been hearing as well are two under-reported items (and I don't know how accurate it is..):

1) That the explosion is related to a wrong or inadequate valve, and;

2) That the FEDS, who supposed to conduct periodic inspections of off-shore rigs & all well heads.. Didn't do that job!

Fishing, commerce, recreational fishing and water sports, the wildlife... all affected due to lord knows how many "F" ups on a variety of levels.

(shaking my head): And then you have the knee-jerk (and I use the word... JERK liberally with this man) actions of the Governator in California.

I've always been more mixed on him. He pushed for some of the biggest environmental reformations relative to infrastructure the state has ever seen. Many of those opportunities were decried by a weird dual host of short-distance trucking unions/farming lobbies and anti-tax conservatives (folks forget that CA was the tax debate epicenter in the late 80s).

The only thing worse than da Governator... Is Jerry Brown.

I was 18 in the middle of his first turn as Governor (yeah... I'm that old). I didn't like his performance then, nor what he did in the State. How he treated then Lt. Gov. Mike Curb too, when Governor MOONBEAM went out of State on long extended State business, was terrible.

He wasn't the best mayor of Oakland, less liked as an the AG for California, and now he wants to do a repeat performance?

I guess he figures no one recalls the economy of this state between 1975 -1980.

Now, this is gonna sound like the same thing we've been hearing over and over again: Mankind is killing this world.

Everyone says that nowadays, everyone. The problem is... I'm not saying this complacently... it's not an exaggeration to imply people should take better care of nature. No. I'm saying people WILL destroy the world. And I'm not talking about thousands or hundreds of years from now. I'm actually gonna be surprised if Earth doesn't simply collapse on 2012 (that'd make the prophets happy) for excess of pollution and somehow wipes out 80-90% of it's living species.

Sadly, I see no future for this world. I don't see a sudden growth of conscience, I don't see green technology really surpassing polluting technology, I don't see any kind of catastrophe that will suddenly spur a new green era. All I see is humans (and please don't make this a 'furry' issue, we ARE in control of this planet and WE are killing it) nearing a global catastrophic mass suicide out of sheer greed.

3 years ago, I worked on site helping clean up a local oil spill where one million liters of oil drained out of a ruptured pipeline, flowing downhill into a river which then flows into the ocean. The mess is just impossible to describe.. Oil spills are under-reported to keep as many people "oblivious" to the severity of the situation. "Out of sight, out of mind". You are right about what goes around will come around. It's just sad that so many people don't care, thinking that it won't bother them if they don't concern themselves with it..

It's more than just pollution going unnoticed. There are so many problems that 99.9% of the people have their heads in the sand about, and yet they gripe endlessly about the superficial symptoms.

It's rare that the news media will rise above being a member of the echo chamber in regards to this; they tend to just feed the same thing that's coming out of the crowd back into it.
