L4D2 help!!!

General
I know a lot of you FAers play L4D2, so if anyone can help me out, that'd be super duper swell...
Problem: While running L4D2 for about an hour or so, it suddenly crashes, with sound loop, and giving me a black screen. (Monitor button turns yellow.) The only way to get out of this black screen is to manually restart my cpu. I have a Nvidia GeForce 8800GT video card, have tried downgrading the drivers to 182.50, and lowering all of the graphics in video to low, and still it happens...
I read somewhere to try rolling my drivers down to 178.24, and disabling Vsync and Multi-core rendering, So imma try that real quick... although I read that that doesn't work.
Again, if anyone can help me, it'd be wonderful. :(

Try going verifying the game files of L4D2 from Steam (not from within the game).
And what do you mean verify?
Also, i'll contact Steam support. :D
Make sure multicore rendering is off (it has a bad habbit of turning itself on);
If you have an anti-virus like AVG, turn it off;
Make sure the drivers are up to date;
Turn off Physx in your nVidia card control panel.

Nope, other than a possibly bad/dying video card, she hasn't a clue. For the record, Rebecca is a CS major in University.
Be sure that the inside of your computer has some form of ventilation and if an option, try opening the side of the case and having a fan blow into it. It's a clunky, makeshift solution, but it should work if overheating is the problem.
<--- Currently does.
