There is no reason NOT to take this deal. "My PC can't run it" isn't even an excuse! Valve is giving away Portal for zilch.
Free.
F-R-E-E.
Fucking FREE!
Yes FREE as in BEER!
Even if you download one byte of the file, it's tied to your Steam account forever.
You already own it on PS3 or PC? Get this version ANYWAY.
Get it get it NOW! In fact I totally COMMAND it!
(Picking up Trackmania Nations Forever is optional.)

Valve and Steam do this sort of thing a lot, crazy deals. Really, they want a lot of people to rush into getting Steam on their Mac as fast as possible, and people getting Steam on PC if they don't already have it, just to get this awesome free game they've already made ridiculous amounts of money over, and will likely still make money from after the free period is over, because people just do that.
Poked at multiple sources to make sure (Though it can be read as such) But the download page confirms it that it forever free once you download the game:
"You'd think that, especially since it actually won over 70 Game of the Year Awards. But, like we keep saying, Portal is free. Free on the Mac. Free on the PC. But only until May 24th. So you only have a few days to decide if your free copy of Portal is worth the price we're currently charging - which is you ever-so-slightly moving your index finger just barely enough to click the big red "download" button right there to the left."
Though it's a great idea. Prices for portal aren't going to get any lower so if people haven't bought it now they most likely aren't going to. So offer portal for free for a while and more people will be hyped up for portal 2 and want to but it as soon as it comes out
Playing Portal on a MacBook is incredible, it's very oddly immersive sitting down and having your MacBook on your lap with the screen right in your face as you play...wonderful!~ |3
It was...
REAL.
Had a steam account quicker than a belly on a husky, and however long it took to download Portal, I waited.
I have it. I have Portal. I finally have a fantastic game I could afford (cause it was FREEEeeee) that's *not* Nintendo! But awesome of you to post a journal, even though I haven't had a chance to play Portal yet I really really like a lot of what Valve does with videogames.
Now it's FREE?!! SO MUCH WIN! Thanks a ton for mentioning this, would've passed by without me knowing otherwise! =O
-much hugs-
