Debate: Hyenas are not Canines

This all started over debating that Mightyena was a Hyena. Then the kid who I was arguing against said that Hyenas are Canines, so I had to draw the line and tell him what a Hyena was.
Me: Mightyena represents a Hyena. Hyenas are not Canines
Him: Ur joking, hyenas r canines, an mightyana is not a hyena. Look it up. Compare the mightyana to a hyena and c the difference....and take bio...
Me: Hyenas are not canines by a long shot. What makes you think that it is? That it looks like a dog? Has teeth and paws? Hyenas are far from Canines since the Canis Lupus (DOG) species breaks off at family Canidae while the Hyena is in the family Hyaenidae. But even more important than that, the Hyena is in the suborder Feliformia which means they are CAT-like.
Him: Its common sense, I mean its a proven fact that they are canines, even though its more related to felines. Either way, they are canines and the mightyana is not a hyenas, more so wolves.
