How to mentaly torture a home intruder?

I mean I don't want to have to injure this person if I don't have too, rather I want to make them think they just walked into the house of some psycotic satanist or somthing. I'm trying to think of ways to deeply disturb and scare somone who brakes into my house. I want to scar them for life so that they never attempt anything like it again. Yeah maybe thats a little twisted and evil, but it's better than taking their lives. Any body have any suggestions?
