the last surviving member of my family who was in WW2 is my Uncle Tom, fought on Iwo Jima and came back half the man he was when he went there. While I hope he has a long and quiet life, I know what happened there ate him up somthing fierce, even to the point where it took him 40 years before he could laugh again

yeah the guys who went through the pacific theater came back heavilly changed because it was hte first use of heavy guerrilla tactics, if you have ever seen the hbo specia 'pacific' or done any research on those battles you would see why

he has mentioned it a few times. like his best friends in the whole world turning into a pulpy red mist followed by red rain...only thing left is a pair of feet with the still smoking boots on, and some other horrible things. I am glad it ended the way it did insofar as we would have lost a very high amount of people on both sides to end the war in the traditional sense.

yes i will agree the atomic bomb was teh best thing but i honestly think they could have picked better targets then hiroshima and nagasaki too many innocent people were killed like the fact of where the hiro bomb dropped, not many know this but the epicenter was right over a hospital

one on each front. they didnt die, but they never really came home.....

i will say this on teh thing about the japanese army family member frm WW2 there probly were more depending on where their hometowns were, but because some places in japan didn't keep medical records or like in teh case of hiroshima where all documents were destroyed in an instant hundreds of people could have died without a single person knowing

So you lost somebody resent that was in Vietnam? I don't have close family members that were in Vietnam, so I can't thank them for their service. Regardless of how you feel about the Vietnam War, the soldiers who fought there still deserve our respect. I know a lot of Vietnam vets were reviled and never thanked for their service. I don't want to sound sappy, but I would like to thank your family members and everyone's here for their service in whatever war they fought in.

I'm here because people fought the Germans in WWII. Half my grandparents were liberated from concentration camps.
