There is a time and a place, someone once said, to keep your mouth shut.
Now is not that time. Come hell or damnation, everyone on my watchlist will know this was done.
A dear friend of mine, Alex Reynard, has had his FurAffinity account hacked and banned. He has done no wrong, has stayed within the AUP, and has, aside from some heated journals, never attacked anyone.
Not only can he NOT log in and do anything about this, but now his art and journals and everything uniquely "him" on this website is at risk of either being deleted or changed to reflect whoever did this and their intentions.
The final straw is that his icon has been changed to "I <3 FA ADMINS".
Enough is fucking enough. When an admin goes right on into your profile and takes what they like, it's time to stand up and say enough.
Spread the Word. ALL of You.
Let your friends know to save their info and to be wary of any admin from this site.
I hate to say it, but I knew that this day would come, when the admins would do as they like and there is little that we can do about it.
Spread the word, people.
My personal thoughts: I'm not surprised stuff like this is happening. I had a feeling things like this would go down the moment the new AUP rules were proposed.
Some will argue that the staff are doing the user base a favor by running this site and that for that they should be allowed to do what they like: FUCK THAT! Either run FA right or just close it down, you're not doing anyone a favor by running it solely based on your whims; by that point you're just running a monument to your own massive ego.
It it's really true the Admid staff had anything to do with this, then indeed Fuck The FA Staff!

If someone hacked my account, I'd tell an admin. One of the easiest ways to prevent further abuse of the hacked account IS to ban it and go from there. Banned doesn't mean the admin hacked it; banning it is a good thing until everything gets straightened out, such as figuring out who "hacked" it in the first place and resetting the password so that the account holder can regain control of his account.
I'll pass that along to
That being said, the point was maid on the original journal (and I would like to mirror it here) that the first act taken by any admins when an account has been reported as hacked is to ban the account so that it cannot be used while it is being investigated.
Why do they do this?
Well to put it simply a hacker who gets one account could get more, so its not enough that the person makes the proper claim to be who they are based on email or the like. Admins need to be careful about such things because if you hand over the reigns to the wrong person, well, just imagine the ensuing problems.
Now I do not know what this person put on journals, nor do I think that the "I heart FA admins" thing points to the admins themselves. if this person was anti-admin then honestly it seems more like someone with an opposing view point trying to be cute. Many people have criticized the FA admins, very openly in fact, without ban. The idea that one person was targeted seems unlikely, especially considering that it could drive away further users, lose the site money and make it harder to martian.
The logical assumption, at least with the facts as they have been presented, would be a non-admin who agrees with the policies and ToS, someone incapable of handling opposing views or perhaps simply thinking they are being clever by demonstrating some 'basic' hacking skills to prove a rather stupid point. If I see more proof, I may change my view
And nothing of value was lost.
I'll repeat myself:
And nothing of value was lost.
"If the admins are indeed abusing their power, I will move my stuff. However the more likely Scenario based on the information given in the journal is that the admins are doing their job against a hacker."
And I ended up being half right, in that the admins were indeed doing their jobs, just not against a hacker. From what you have posted it seems you read only the first line of what I wrote, and decided to insult me based on it, without so much as bothering to understand my point of view. Now please tell me how I was whining.
If they give someone warning that an icon is offensive and take it down, only to have it put back up again, a ban is warranted.
If the icon and account were locked/taken by the admins without any prior warning or notice, it shows that they are beginning to abuse their power and thus the proper course of action is to ensure that their work will not be vulnerable for just sitting on this site exclusively.
Again my original theory was that the ban was done by the admins as a way to prevent damage after a hacking, an option that seemed more reasonable at the time.
Now had my friend been right, it would have signified an abuse of power. If people in charge of a site abuse their power, then its time to leave since they are obviously too irresponsible to trust. My initial and continued view is that they have not displayed such signs of irresponsibility, but I am also shocked that you seem to feel "Declaring you will leave a site if people show signs of abusing it and moving to an alternative site which has not to your knowledge shown said signs" equates to whining. It is no less reactionary than the cry of admin abuse being assumed at the onset of this ban. The only difference is that you set yourself at the other extreme.
Abuse of power is not a laughable concept, it is simply one you do not understand. Granted none of the things I have mentioned are likely to happen. FA has been up for years now and to my knowledge No abuses have really happened in any way shape or form. However if you take that as granted, you leave yourself vulnerable if someone does decide to abuse the power given to them, be it out of maliciousness or simply misguided zeal for their task.
It is good to trust those in power when they have proven themselves worthy of it, but only a fool takes a free gift for granted.
In conclusion: lawl.
I'm not going to reply anymore, I feel as though I've made my point.
Yes, you have made your point sir, and I am genuinely sorry you have such a loose grasp of reality.
I could, in all honestly, care less about if you respect me or not. Somehow, I think I'll survive without it. So I think the best thing for you to do is to not try and tell me what to do.
...Of course, I'm no exception, and as such leaves me with no excuse.
Still, I stand by my statement.
And I tried ignoring it. But you know what happens? It only gets worse. So I figure, why not head off "the stupid" when it starts, versus allowing it to run ramped before being shut down? If people don't like it, or better yet, are offended by it? Oh well, life is full of things that we won't like. It's what we do with that little fact that defines who we are.
One, ignore it.
Two, be an ass and put yourself in the middle.
Or three, you could go the middle way and be respectful and try to reason with people.
Though the third option does have many flaws to it.
It isn't even a matter of 'understanding', this silverautomatic person has already made a judgment call about me based on my first line of my first statement and has been trolling. At this point, I'm done feeding the troll.
Often it's best to walk away from a battle you can't win rather than fight back.
Typical.
