I've moved to Juneau,Alaska finally settled
15 years ago
Well guys I'm settled... for the most part. Got a mailing address, a good apartment, bought a small weber barbecue (must have, love grilling meat), internet and routine. A couple things I want to get going is running again. I use to run about 5 miles a day back in CA for exercise (not all at once, 3 in the morning, 2 in the evening). Also on my agenda is getting a fishing license because that is what you do up here, if you don't fish you hike and I've been doing a lot of hiking. An average hike around here as a 2000 foot elevation change every 2 miles of trail. That doesn't include the up and down craziness in between so its a workout. Its June so the King Salmon are about to have their spawning runs soon. Unfortunately I for got my fishing pole and reel. Wouldn't have done much good though I'm use to fishing small stream or lake trout. Not 30 pound salt water fish.
Clothing has been not an issue really recently. The weather has been really sunny and nice so I haven't had to worry about rain gear. However this last couple of days it has reminded me that its still a concern. I'm going to get some 'Scot's guard water resistance spray' stuff for my cloths. I'm thinking I can get by with that until Fall or Winter. Stuff is really expensive up here so until I've got a good flow of income in I'm going to try and cut back on buying new stuff and buy 'upgrades' for the stuff I already have. Guns and ammunition are more expensive than the bear pepper spray deterrent so I'm going o start with that before graduating to something with more 'effective' results. But like I said before, an issue but not one too be too concerned about. Since I've been here I've seen 5 black bears of various sizes. All of which were more interested in getting out of my way than seeing what I was carrying in my backpack.
Never the less I'm loving it up here. If any of you guys want to drop by they got a great brewery around here called 'Alaskan'. They may a great beer, for those of you up here and in Washington and maybe Oregon you would know that. Stop on my and I'll grill up some King Salmon and go through a case.
Peace.
