They KNOW what happened. They locked me out of it in the first place. I had bought the student edition, and they decided I wasn't eligible (even though I provided proof that I AM a student), AFTER I had paid for the program and installed it.

...the only reason they could lock you out is if you used an expired serial number.

Apparently not. They decided that I was a non-student claiming to be a student using a student edition, so they said I was "no longer eligible to activate my program".

So I tried to go around it by using a pirated serial number, which apparently just pissed it off even more so CS4 won't even open to tell me "fuck you" now.

Well....GIMP is free, if that helps any.

My experience with GIMP has left me punching my desk in frustration. If all else fails it works but I wouldn't suggest it.

You can file a small claims case for that. You already paid them the money, they can't just decide NOT to let you have the program and not give you a full refund.

And this is why I only use obsolete versions which are acquired through less-than-legal means. It's not really stealing if they aren't even selling it. I love 7.0, and while it's not quite as advanced as the CS releases, it gets the job done for most things at least until you can get Adobe to stop being douchebags.

I was a registered user of Adobe products. I paid full price and registered everything, up to PhotoShop 7. At one point I had about three legitimate licenses for Photoshop floating around (versions came with my scanner and one of my large format printers) When they decided to start implementing "product activation" that was the last version I bought. Everything that I dreaded has come to pass, in spades, and then some.

I am not going to hold my breath for Adobe to stop being asshats. They're one of the founding members of the Business Software Alliance, a.k.a. the DRM Gestapo.

well there's CS4 portable, which is basically the exact same thing with a few things missing......

you should be able to uninstall it and reinstall. try contacting adobe then, and if possible get around the normal help desk idiots who dont actually know how to help people.

I had a similar problem with a broken power supply, if you can get in contact with the right people and show your purchase evidence it should go smooth sailing. its just finding someone who doesnt work like a robot.

anyway, I really recommend you follow the keygen's and your programpackage's instructions, theres a few quirks you need to do to get CS4 working.

I just put CS5 on mine. I could walk you through it, no problem at all.

i did it but as soon as i close and reopen it says it was invalid

there's a way to disable the program from checking if it's legit. I'll have to look it up again...

I did. It was a keygen that fucked up my program this time.

You need to completely uninstall Photoshop CS4 (leaving absolutely no leftovers) and then call adobe and tell them WTF.

Yeah, that was the first one I tried. No result whatsoever. As soon as the program was reinstalled, it gave me the exact same message.

Damn... thanks for the warning. Maybe try this though:

1. Uninstall CS4. The whole thing. You might need a doohicky from adobe's site specifically for this -- they do some pretty cheap shit when it comes to regfiles and whatnot. Not entirely sure if it's a rootkit or what, but it's a little like trying to remove a virus.

2. Manually change your hosts file to redirect activate.adobe.com to localhost (127.0.0.1). The hack for this doesn't work it seems like, but it should tell you how to do it yourself.

3. Reinstall it. Use a pirated key if necessary (no foul, you DID buy it ^_~). Note: You might need to go as far as reformatting for step 1 to actually work.

I really hate when companies pull this crap. -_-

Ouch, that really sucks. Hopefully there's someone here that could fix it. Internet has enough nerds on it to make an army. :3

Scan your school registration, email it to them, telling them that if they do not unlock the program within 24 hours that you will file suit against them, and that you will go to the school, and file a formal complaint that Adobe has locked you out because they do not accept the schools documents and that for legal reasons your asking the school stop the sale of all Adobe soft ware.

Include your schools legal department, the state you live in commererce and legal departments phone numbers addresses and name of the department head.

I like this. A lot. But schools never listen to students, and I can tell you from having been a student within the last 10 years that the school would meet news of one of their own being screwed over by Adobe with a shrug. They always start with the assumption that their students are all lawbreakers anyway, and probably deserve whatever happens to them.

i can help you find a ripped one. i mean you already bought the program so if you want I can find one for you. you’ll need to DL bittornado or another bittorrent client but they are free
