When I hold doors for people in my hometown they snob me and don't even say thank you. I think I should start letting the door go juuust at the appropriate moment o.o

I hate the awkward distance of holding the door for some people who are able-bodied, young or without anything in their hands. You start to, then you realize they are too far away or too slow moving and you have 2 choices: either keep holding the door for an inordinate amount of time and look like an idiot if they don't say thanks (or like you're hitting on them) or leave and let the door slam in their face. My mind's a battlefield when that happens.

I really have no problem holding it for an inordinate amount of time... I think I have a flair for being a doorman XD

Maybe that's your calling? lol One time I waited for a solid minute while someone dawdled outside the door, and I'm a little impatient myself-- especially considering I had to use the restroom then. As least she thanked me afterwards.

Yeah, I'm in from the southeastern US where where it's customary that everyone holds doors for everyone. And I usually don't have a problem unless they do not thank me in return. Those situations don't happen often, but when you do, oh they really get to you. I've been tempted to throw people into the door after not thanking me before.

I think I actually adopted the "You're welcome..." in a mocking tone response. Once the person was caught completely off guard and was like "Th-thank you!"

Usually I just mimick saying that in a flamboyant way though. Most people notice and do leave kinda annoyed by it XD

I don't either, but then I'm submissive by nature. *giggles*

With me it's just pure old fashioned politeness. I do think my parents educated me a bit too well. I'm often appalled by other people's rudeness XD

I just keep going. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN FASTER, ONLY MEET THEM HALFWAY ASADFDSD

Heh, just let them worry about the door themselves! XD I work by the principle that it's just a door and if they can't expend the energy to open it themslves they don't deserve to be inside :D

Yeah, i agree its awkward, but sometimes its rather funny since they don't usually get it themselves xD

That happened to me yesterday..

I only hold the door for someone if I'm at the door as they get to it. Only time I'll ever actually rush to open / hold a door is if it's an elderly person or someone with a baby carriage (I've seen how hard it is for people to get through doors with baby carriages).

Other than that, if I walk away from the door before they get to it, they can open the damn thing themselves :P

Oh trust me, that's nothing compared to what happened to me once. Was walking into a McDonald's once with my female friend, who is a complete Tomboy. Four White Gangsta come out of the McD's and hold the door open for us. When she says thank you, they all say out in unison "Your welcome", when I say thanks, they scoff.

Now, were my friend wearing, say, revealing clothing, I might have understood the niceness. But she looked the farthest thing from these guys type!
