freedom-frequency First I'd like to thank everyone who's read the first episode of Contact: Insert Shameless Advertisement Here!
The story started off as nothing more then a writing practice which turned into a fun little project. Though it's cool to read other's opinions on my work, I'm mostly just doing this for fun.
For those afraid to read, please shield your eyes.
Now then this first episode probably sprang a lot of questions for the reader, specifically about WTF Sora is and WTF a contractor is: A contractor is a mortal being gifted with supernatural abilities through contract ties with an immortal being. Powers of each contractor is tied to one specialty along with one defect. While the specialty is of the mortal's choice, the defect is chosen by the contact, both can be very various and do not need to be tied to just the two examples presented in the first episode.
As stated there are two sides to the contract, the gift and the defect. The gift can be activated at will at any time by the contractor, effectively setting the contract in motion. However in order to complete the contract, a defect stipulation must be met the moment the gift has be deactivated. The length and severity of said defect depends on the length of time the gift is active. During moments of defect, the gift cannot be active again, the defect must run its course for the contract to be fulfilled ((yay cooldowns!)).
As stated, the gift and the defect can varied and they do not have to fit a particular theme; Sora, for example, uses a lightning cloak that releases a high level of volts depending on the speed and power of the blow. His defect, set by his immortal tie, is forcing him to spend a specific amount of time as a cunt boy or another stipulation is met during his defect condition.
There is no time limit for the gift, it will exist for the entirety of the user's life as long as the User or the immortal they're tied to, is killed.
Speaking of Murder, Contractors are very tough to kill. They innately gain an incredibly high regenerative stat. Normally fatal wounds, like for example organs bursting and being hit by a truck in the case of Sora vs Diego, can be fully healed in a day or two's time. The brain must be destroyed or severely damaged to kill a Contractor or their bodies must endure severely un-liveable conditions ((Drawning, no atmosphere, etc.)).
When a contractor's gift is turned active, the gain a higher tolerance to pain.
The only indication of a contractor's existence is when their gifts are activated. All contractors also share the same property of glowing eyes when their contract is active. Otherwise a Contractor is clueless of another Contractor's existence unless their immortal tie is near by to keep them advised.
Contact is a name given to supernatural beings who are bound to a mortal via contract. Forming a contract means the immortal is granting a portion of their strength to a mortal. A defect MUST be in place for the contract to be formed.
But why would an immortal grant a mortal strength in my little world? It's a simple reason, for more power. If a contact's mortal has defeated another contractor in a bout via incapacitation, both the contact and the contractor gain a portion of the other team's general power. If a contractor kills another contractor, the winning team gains a much larger portion of strength. The amount gained is dependent on the strength of the defeated team.
Now this brings the question "Why not just give majority or at least half of your power to your mortal as a Contact?". Well that's where the power struggle and balance comes into play. You see if the contractor is actually capable of merely defeating the Contact, their roles are reversed, the mortal becomes immortal and the former Contact is now just a mortal with no special powers. It is the Contact's duty to keep all of this in mind when deciding the portion of his power he wishes to entrust into a mortal. Trust is fragile and an important struggle between the Contact and Contractor. If the contact decides to kill the contractor, that portion of his power will be forever lost. It is all a gamble for the Contact, this is why a contractor is so rarely seen in society, they are merely a myth.
A contact may make a contract with multiple individuals, it is rare but not unheard of amongst most contacts. Remember this is a portion of their power and their overall power on the line, the more individuals involved, the greater the gamble if one has been defeated or killed.
And the final question that comes to mind, "Why doesn't the Contact just kill the contractor?". It is not up to the Contact. A contact cannot interfere with contractor affairs physically, they can only provide moral support, guidance and advice for the Contact. While contracted, any interference physically will result in a severe loss of power. Killing a contractor without his consent to a fight results in the contact becoming a mortal. There is not benefit for a Contact fighting another Contact, only penalties of their overall power. All bouts of a contact must be consent to either the opposing Contractor or his Contact.
This is all a game made to gain fame and power amongst immortals of all kinds. By making a contract, they have agreed to the rules set forth and the penalties for contract breech.
A contract can only bind a mortal and immortal together.
One would think the type of generation a contractor would be is dependent on their family or how old they are. It is not. It is solely dependent on the age and strength of the Contact. There are currently 3 generations of Contractors with a mythical 4th. Third Gen Contractors are usually Contractors with young, weaker Contacts. These Contractors tend to be just as ambitious though as arrogant as their Contact, resulting in an inexperienced Contractor. These types of Contractors usually, vaguely acknowledge of the rules in place. In a society hidden under a society, such contractors can be a plague to the entire game. That is not to say these types of Contractors cannot be extremely dangerous at the same time.
Types of contacts for these Contractors vary from minor to major demons, fairies, imps, angels, fallen, etc.
A First Generation Contractor is very powerful and usually well experienced and equipped for the situation. They know the game fairly well thanks to the advice given by their Contact and usually abide by them. Their Contacts are usually very powerful and consists of Djinn, Demi Gods, Demi Devils, Guardians, etc.
The fourth type of contractor is called a True Contractor. These Contractors of unheard of, they are myths beneath myths. To be a True Contractor, a mortal must be in contract with a God, Arc Angel, Arc Devil, Fiend, One of the seven deadly sins, etc. It is unheard of for a god to lend a portion of his strength to a mere mortal.
