Even if you two had the same idea, you totally blew it out of the water with the sheer quality of your work and dedication.
To your question - I'd feel great. You're ahead of the fashion curve, and you trumped your nearest competitor with hard work and attention to detail.
Medieval style armor is hardly original. It's something a lot of people admire and find fun to dress up or role play with. Just because someone else did the same thing doesn't give anyone any right to act like he killed a puppy.
The people with $4000 fursuits don't go insulting people with $300 partials that look just as cute, do they?
