Then I bought it. Then I discover that after the first night, seeing a few monsters (which I don't see how to kill without dying myself, really) apparantly caused the fps to drop so low that the game is unplayable. YAY.
Oh, and ... just ... dig down if you're looking for rock! It's everywhere! Coal's a little harder to find, though. Search around for small caves or rock outcroppings, there are usually some deposits there.
Also, what the hell can you do about creepers?
You can also kill 'em with a bow of course, but that involves killing skeletons and spiders for feathers and string. Unless the drops have changed. Maybe you can make string from wool now? I haven't played with monsters in a long time.
