The focus on the enhancement of your life and happiness as your highest individual priority. In this case, I'm alleviating a weekly obligation and freeing up more time by no longer catering to a small percentage of subscribers. I'm making more money using some freed up time doing commissions, and I'm able to focus on my adult projects to a greater degree and complete them faster. And the fans get a free blog. Win win.

So, in short. Fuck em, I'm in it for the money?

I think I'm *precise* with words. A lot of other people are sloppy with them. They make presumptions. They read connotations that don't exist. I try to pick what I say very carefully to convey precise meanings.

I'd like to agree with this entirely. I have a lot of people that have never met you make a lot of flippant "OH I KNOW ITS TRUE" statements about your frame of mind and opinions on things. Whereas people who have met you, say exactly the opposite.

People that just don't like you for the sake of being part of the crowd who doesn't read far too deeply into a lot of the stuff you say, write, or draw. I however have never found you all that offensive or wildly unreasonable.

A lot of people approach from the initial standpoint of "I'm going to assume you have devil horns and that I can verbally shit on you and expect you to smile" and then complain about my responses.

*nods* exactly. Nobody ever seems to take the time to try and approach you from their own stance, as opposed to being a member of the horde that tries to piss you off. It's very confusing to me when people swear up and down they know exactly what kind of person you are, but have never taken the time to talk to you.

Shh. Don't just blatantly expose the root substance of altruism so blithely!

It's not unreasonable for people to want to be special in some way. Calling them out for the inevitable selfish motivations of anything they do is kinda pissing in their cornflakes. What people usually mean by 'selfish' is, giving no weight to 'meta' motivations such as desire to be praised for doing nice things, or desire for societal advantage ("I count a little more because I work to aid the GROUP")

To be aware of that stuff is more in the direction of E.E. Doc Smith's "enlightened self-interest": it's an acknowledgement that there's only limited fun to be had in kicking over everybody else's sand-castles. Generosity basically means 'I could have withheld this', which is usually true.

What's so wrong with the root substance of altruism? Seems to work okay. Just because some people believe it is puked up by a magical unicorn without any more earthly motivations involved...

It's not to be confused with "being nice" or respecting another person's rights. The root of an altruistic morality is the emphasis of other people's priorities and needs over your own. To give is moral. To earn and keep has no moral weight to a moral altruist. I disagree. And to the degree you claim there's no moral weight in improving your own life, you aren't an altruist.

I should say, to the degree you ascribe a moral basis for improving your own life, is the degree to which you aren't an altruist.

lol , i think people need to appericate that u have a free website period!..( ur webcomics etc. ) Honestly , u could of done a 180 and said NO ACCESS to ANYTHING from my site until u pay up! Some people forget that ur a human being and a professional at the same time, so its only natural that you have 2 sides (1-for self expression/personal reasons .. 2-profit for ur professional line of work *which is NOT WRONG* its ur job,u get paid for doing a job u cant work for free all the time!)

I don't consider the two sides different or opposing. I'm just one whole me.

This may be a stupid question, but why have a sketch blog at all if it's not for pay?

I guess what I'm asking it why not just post your sketches/peeks at upcoming work here, like what you've done previously to a lesser degree?

It seems kind of redundant to have multiple posting locations, especially since I imagine everyone who would be checking out your site also has an FA account and is watching you.

I want to give people more reason to actually go to the website. You'd be surprised how many times I get the comment, "Hey, where do you have your comics?" whenever I post a comic page here, even if it's clearly posted on my pictures. Plus, I don't want to deluge my scraps section with tons of sketches detailing every scribble.

I wondered that a little bit myself. Fisk has FA, LJ, and then his website. Splitting up postings of material across three different areas makes a sense since each are sort of achieving something different. The site is a business, FA is roots in the community, and LJ is, well, it's LJ. I guess in theory it's supposed to be personal and it provides a feed ot people who use LJ so they don't have to check the site every day to see if anything is new. But since the sketch blog isn't really a money-making thing anymore, does it fit into the site?

I guess the sketch blog still gives a space to dump stuff that might not qualify as really up to par with his finished works on FA, and it keeps things organized unlike LJ. It's not super convenient for fans trying to keep up, having to check three different sites to keep up to date with one artist, but it's probably the best choice available.

People are complaining that there's now a FREE sketch blog?
