Alex Ritter here, with an overal report on my experinces at the 2007 Anthrocon.
The flight to AC 07, my first trip to this con and my second con to ever go to was uneventful though pleasent. Arrived at about 8:12pm and along with a number of fellow Houston furs headed for the main gathering. On the way the humans were firing off their fireworks and putting on one hell of a display of color, light, and sound. It made me think two things when we arrived at the fireworks really started to go off.
1) Its almost likey they are celebrating our arrival
2) It makes me think of a city when its being bombed.
And in truth it did from the Westin on the 20th floor some of the fire works could not be seen only the flashes and smoke in the night sky, it easily looked like one of the many shots form Iraq in 1991.
Unlike Chicago and MFF last year I had the forsight to ask for some roomies and did I hit the jack pot; my first roomie a cute and energetic husky named Devil was there to meet me at the hotel when I arrvied that evening on the 4th. The other roomies I shared the room with was a respectable and honest dragon whom I refered to simply as Tom and his lady a polite and funny feline whom I refered to as La.
The dragon and his beloved did not join me and Devil until late thursday. For the most part wensday and thursday were the build ups to the great gathering. Its at that time I caught up and found to my delight my friends Baka and Bar-1 would both be at the con and swiftly commissioned the pecies that are now in my gallery.
Over the course of the con I meet many, many different and loving furs, of all shapes and sizes and deminors. It truely was a experince unlike any other. The friends I made there I have vowed to keep intouch with and if the chance arises to meet up with them at future cons and gatherings.
The Dealers Den and Artist Gallery were amazing and much larger then those at MFF I think, I got my paws on the latist from that Husky, and from the Circles gang. I also collected some new books and material I'd not noticed before such as Rocketship Rodents and ASB. It is not hard to believe I shot most of my fundings into the DR then anything else.....that and the commissions I asked from D.Bruin and the producers of Albedo.
It was while running around this crazy and amazing gathering of furs I meet some new and old friends, I meet furs I had seen and chatted with shyly back in MFF and now confidently stood by at AC. Among the new friends I made was Foxx and his mate Dingo as well as a loveable cat named White Lion. All three were funny, kind, and very warm and open turly some of the best friends I have made in a long time. Then there is of course the roomies I stayed with Tom and La are amazing at listening to others and connecting with them. Devil while not the best listner is still funny and was always full of energy to run about and see new things. He also taught me how to play GOW without dieing to badly....I still had trouble using the cover correctly...he made it look so easy.
On another note I made my first jab into the art auctions and while I didn't get everything I have to say it was alot of fun. I enjoyed this funny duel with a rabbit over a cute otter pic in the voice auctions. I did though run out with a nice pair of pics "Ship Shape" a pic by Michele Light of a cute and just begging to be cuddled Sea Otter, and a mecha wolf that looks alot like the MS-18E Kampfer from 0080 by Zen Mignawa.
I also got away with a nice Dragon pick by Kari Kathals but I gave that one to Tom and La I knew they'd love it^_^. Overall the best summary I can give for the con was it was beyound anything any of us first AC goers could ever imagine. It was a blast.
