Look, I agree with the message, but I think it would be more along the lines of... draw LESS porn? I mean, there's a point, as there always is with blanket statements like this, that it becomes seriously impractical, and telling hormonal and sex-starved artists to not draw porn is like telling someone who should lose some weight to simply stop eating food... well, it's kinda like that anyway

do you really think that the yiff is based more on hormones than it is on popularity(in this case)? and shouldn't they focus more on having self approvement and personal achievement as an artist? i agree that there's a time and a place, -everything in moderation and cold turkey won't work with most people unless they desperately want it themselves. however, i think it would serve us all well if we took a closer look at what we do and why, to consider if that's really what we want for ourselves.

Well, consider why it's popular, because people like porn, why do people like porn? Because of hormones and sex drive - come on, perhaps some do it because it's popular, but maybe some do it because they actually like drawing pron!

I agree with JellyMuffins. Young artists with hormonal levels that are over 9,000 simply do not care how good their art is quality-wise so long as it is porn. They also probably realize that porn is the fastest ticket to gaining popularity, which is why they resort to it first. I believe these same artists however do reach a point during their spree of porn art where they realize that they do need work on anatomy, proportions, perspective, etc... Then again, that in itself comes with time, and it varies.

so what you're saying is all they really care about is porn, and popularity, and being an artist comes secondary way way down the line? especially a good one?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's the right way to go about it. I'm just saying that yes, that's typically how the majority of them would think at first. Trying to learn anatomy and all that can appear to be a daunting task, so they just avoid it altogether and attempt to take the "easy" route to popularity. Until they actually start realizing it isn't simple as that and start reflecting on their own artwork in comparison to the artwork of more established artists, that's all they're going to care about. They SHOULD strive to become better artists, but they don't, simple as that.

Some of them actually realize that their artwork isn't that great, but feel like they have no means to improve or feel that they will never be one of the "top" artists. This, for the most part, is why you see a lot of traced artwork around here (I don't want to go too much into this, as that would be opening a new can of worms involving "referencing" and so on).

I am also speaking from personal experience, as I used to only care about the porn and popularity myself.
