Well the conversation didn't end up going anywhere with it, so I guess that made things a bit worse afterwards for me. xD

I usually do it but to me it's kinda weird. I'm not a native english user and that's the reason. It sounds like a template and honestly I don't like it... ESPECIALLY because most people who say such things and talk to me don't have anything else to talk about. something like "hi -> hi, how're you -> pretty nice, and you? -> ok" and that's the end of the conversation. I usually have much more fascinating conversations with people who don't say this thing at all and start the conversation with something like "have you heard about <put something here>... oh and hi btw"... :D

It's understandable, and I can agree with that point of view. For me it feels like a customary, polite thing to do, like holding doors for people and so forth.

Yes I agree thoroughly but I think it also depends on the level of relations with certain people :) If they are pretty official then good manners are expected but if they are close friends I think it shouldn't be a problem :)
