Dook!
(Translation: I shall decree!) So I got to borrow
hellivinakhaos's old tablet with a DB9 serial port versus the modern universal serial bus(USB) and took it home to find out that my computer, being new, built by me, and all that jazz, doesn't have this outdated port. So, no big deal. I go looking around online to see if there are any adapters for this oddity and low and behold I find them all over newegg.com from $7-$30. Well, I don't really want to wait a few days to play around with then new/old toy I got, so I head over to my friendly, ass-rape-you-with-eye-gouging-prices BestBuy.
Looking about, I didn't really see it, until I looked at the bottom shelf and see "USB to DB9 Serial Adapter".
"Yay," I thought. Now I can get this crap wagon a-rolling. I look again $36.99! WTF?! Is this thing made from anamantium?! This is just an adapter from an old form of info traveling to a newer one! I walk out kinda fuming from the inflated oversale they had on it. So I go to RadioShack and it was $38.99! I ask the clerkess, "What is this? Made from gold?"
"Yes, actually. It is," she replied with a contagious cheery smile, "All these things are really expensive."
Pissed again from the overzealous companies that sell this crap, I walk out and go back to BestBuy because I just felt masochistic and purchased that damn thing.
Then, I go home and install the drivers for the thing and then hook up the tablet and install those drivers.
Nothing. "Error: No supported tablets were found."
"Damnit!" I shriek.
Nothing is going right today. But, I kept installing the drivers. Eventually all of them. Still, nothing. I swapped to my other desktop with Vista on it, instead of XP like on my main.
Repeat.
Nothing.
Like always, when all else fails I read the small print around everything. I looked up the drivers and they plainly state that adapters are fail for the support of the product and that I should kill myself with a railroad spike. But, seriously, they need an onboard serial port card..... which no one fucking makes anymore. (Well, they do, but I'm not going to buy them and wait a week to see if this thing fails again.) I have completely given up now and am about to return the $40.03 wire to those buttfucks.
In retrospect, it was a good thing that I did not buy that adapter online. Live and learn. :D
TL;DR
I got an old tablet and expensive wire. Nothing worked. Taking it back now.

They will rape you in the ass and then laugh about it and smile on your way out the door. Better to find a little family owned electronics store and buy your things there. or online but im impatient like you XD
