Is there really a difference between being bad at something and not being good at something?
I'm feeling decidedly average.
I'm overshadowed by
KichigaiKitsune and
drackirwolf in writing talent. I can't even hold a candle to them. Drackir's recently been published in Heat magazine, and Kichi is steadily growing in popularity.
I won't even start drawing, 'cos I know that I simply won't be as good as
SexyMel and
Muchi.
I know these people personally. I'm good friends with all of them; or at least, they don't hate me. Isn't that the same thing?
I want to stand out, but at the moment I'm having trouble seeing why I should even start.

On a side note, I'm Mizu Astrum. HI TWIN! =3
If you don't, you never will.
"Is there really a difference between being bad at something and not being good at something?"
Absolutely. You'll likely never be the best at anything, and god knows I never will be. There's a difference between being bottom rung and being relatively decent -- aside from just the fact that you have to start somewhere.
People don't just care about "the best." The "best" may be at the top of a heap, but that heap can still be made of some very good things.
"Kichi is steadily growing in popularity."
.... I am?!
Seriously, don't get discouraged. It takes a lot of work to get GOOD at anything -- you do not get good by quitting because you're not magically "the best" straight away. Practically speaking, if someone is good at something, credit their focus, drive and how often they practice. It ain't genetics.
You start off crap and you stay crap for a long time, improving slowly over time. The only variable is how long that time will be (varying between "a long time" and "a fucking epoch"). That's how it is. Period. You want to be good at anything whatsoever, you have to work for it and believe in yourself. It'll be difficult, and you'll hate 90% of whatever it is you produce. But it's the only way ANYONE has ever gotten good at ANYTHING.
There. Figured this, and you, deserved a proper response...
