Squeaking...
I've been seeing a lot of negative comments lately on the whole squeaking-in-fursuit thing.
If you don't know what I'm referring to, check these real quick:

I'm definitely not the first one to squeak in this manner, but I've been labeled as that, or as at least "bringing it back", but it seems like it's getting a little out of control.
I'm kind of at a loss here. I thought this would be a good idea at first =/ I've been able to do some pretty unique things with just a piece of plastic and I feel like I've made it my own, but with all the people out there doing it now and all the annoyed people I've stumbled across.. is it really worth it to continue?
From indirect feedback I've gotten it seems like some people love it, some people hate it, and others feel like it's just done too often.
I'd really like to know how you all feel about it, because while I love this fandom and get plenty of joy out of performing, I really do care about the people I'm going out there and entertaining as well. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you guys!
Now I can't really control what others around me are doing, but in terms of just me: If you had to decide, would you prefer I..
A) Stop squeaking altogether
B) Ignore the negative attention and squeak as I have been
or
C) Slow my squeaking down and only do it in moderation
The only problem with C is that I'm bound to forget at times.. I get pretty excited when I'm running around like a lunatic xP
Feel free to comment or note me with your opinion: I made the journal because I want to know how you all feel, so don't be afraid to be honest, I won't be offended! Thanks for the input guys! =3

FA+

Just remember, you fursuit for your own enjoyment and not for their's.
overduing something too much will make someone a one note and gets old
I mean hell, YOU love it so who give sa shit what others think?
But I will agree, being overly sqeeky is annoying. I yell at my dogs for it with their chew toys xDD
i really enjoyed when i met JD and he was squeaking, i dont why but it really broke the ice on my first time meeting a suiter
*probs not a word, but oh well
*giggles*
As always, there's good and bad feedback. I dont see a problem since it has become your signature. I say keep doing it and if someone does notl ike it: Shun the non-believer! shuuuunnnn!!!!!
It really gets me in a good mood, and I think it's cute and funny as hell ^^ So I think you should continue doing it
But really what it comes down is how you want to express yourself and have fun. I can't speak for others, but I admire you so much just as you are. Anything you do that -is- you is something I will love.
Even if SD goes insane over it, and that's my bruh right there lol!
If you like the illusion of being one then I would take out the squeaker.
But if you do it for fun, you should keep the squeaker.
Honestly, do what you think is right. Its nice to get other peoples opinions on it, but I think that you should decide. Its your fursuit, not anyone else's. If you really love the squeaker, then keep it.
I made the mistake on using it out of suit in public for the sake of practicing. I am now restricting myself to only use it in suit and in moderation.
It's entirely up to you.
However, you have your own way of doing it, your own sound effects and creativity besides just "squeak squeak," whereas other people squeal away mindlessly like there's no tomorrow. You talk with yours (although it's difficult to understand at times).
People expressing their frustration may just be doing it directed at you because you happen to be there, or they happen to know you more than others. Maybe it's a general, biased dislike as a whole, in which case they suck, cuz generalizations suck.
The people who are REALLY overdoing it need to stop. But we know they won't.
B and C.
You kind of were the frontrunner on that trend, so you can do it all you like really.
as you can see there are plenty of people who enjoy it. as do i.
as ive always said "have as much fun as you can every day, because you are dead a really long time"
If the squeaking is part of your character, then keep using it. I see that it's part of Skroy and it works for him. On the other hand, if someone does it simply because he can, and isn't using it as part of his character behavior or performance, then he shouldn't do it. Hearing a chorus of random squeaking coming from people who aren't really 'performing' is annoying.
Skroy squeaks, and we all know that. That's what he does, and it's not some random 'I do it because I can' thing. I'm sure most of the negative comments are aimed at the furs who squeak for no good reason, and there are a more than a few doing that. But I wouldn't worry about it. The random, non-performing squeakers will get bored with it soon and find some other furry fad to overdo.
Keep it squeaky Skroy :3 *snugs*
So it's a mixture of B and C, but would lean more to C. Overdoing things is always an annoyance.
Also creative at some points. Like the robot thing.
+Watch :D
Squeaking like that all the time can be perceived as you are only out to seek attention ( it is a very attention grabber ) all the time so people might get annoyed with that fact and get jealous of you to the point where they don't like you as much anymore.
Also I have to say that it was a wee bit overdone at MP this year. So I would suggest using it in moderation is a better strategy.
(don't take this the wrong way dude,I like you but I am giving you the cold hard facts of it)
I made the journal for a reason and I really appreciate your honesty *HUGS*
Then again, that was my first encounter, really.
You are adorable and I think that the people who are making negative comments are those who are merely jealous of you.
I'm going to say C. Part of fursuit performance is audience interaction and recognizing what they do and don't like, what is and isn't funny. I think the squeaking is adorable, but I recognize where it might get one someone's nerves. Sure, you're going to get caught up in the moment and forget sometimes, but just try to remember to monitor your audience closely. Once it becomes habit, you'll more easily learn to strike a balance, dynamically, depending upon the crowd.
Gods, that makes me miss Frizbee so much.
Besides it's cute and is a part of the lighter side of the furry fandom that many outside the fandom fail to see. (You know the ones that simply google "furry" and peg us as a bunch of bestiality freaks.)
Thing is we on the lighter side of the fandom are slowly educating each other to help spread the real furry kind of people we honestly are. And squeaking in fursuits is nothing to be ashamed of, and those that have an issue with it (especially any furries that spew negative comments) should honestly take a look in the mirror, because their in no position to pass negative judgment on anyone else.
Especially furries. I'll say this much about any furs out there that pass negative judgment on something even as innocent as squeaking. Reconsider that judgment, and if not? Start thinking of whether or not your a furry. And if you find your not a furry, then shut up, go about your lives , and let us go about ours.
We're here, and we're happy with our lives. ^_^
I think the problem is if you and others does "B" you'd imagine.
Nah I'm playin I say B its not that annoying to hear unless there is a bunch of people doing it all at once =)
Your squeaking makes me laugh. Keep it up :3
I'd also say it's a mix between B and C. Awesome things are even more awesome when done in moderation and not overdoing it, so finding a balance would be the key :)
Personally, tho, it doesn't bother me in the slightest and you can squeak at me all you want ;) Hopefully I can make it to MFF this year and see ya there! :)
*snugs lots*
And I haven't been around on IMs that much these past months either :)
*squeezes tight the roo and licks* ^.^
At the same time, you need to recognize that the squeaky is, to put this as neutrally as I can, hard to ignore. It attracts attention and disrupts other activities nearby. This can be good, if folks want to be entertained, or it can be bad, if they were trying to pay attention to something else. The difference between playing a lovable character whose shtick is pretending to be annoying, and really being obnoxious, is being sensitive to the audience and the situation.
You'll probably tick off a few people now and then if you act like you did when I was around at iFC, but you'll also make a lot of people's days brighter.
All this is a long winded way of saying "mostly B and a little of C". Because I always want to turn multiple choice questions into essays.
Keep squeaking, but do keep thinking about it!
I am going to go with C.
I am going to be going around with a dog bone that has a squeaker in it hehe.
And I made it myself from scratch. Hehe
The problem is that this squeaker is in my mouth, and merely breathing with my mouth closed produces a squeak, it's very easy to squeak without even thinking about it when it's always there XD
I been thinking of getting one of those mouth squeakers as I am so cute now. xD
But I don't want to be a copycat though. Hehe
KEEP ON SQUEAKING!
Haters gonna' hate....
Be yourself to the fulest =)
B
So I'd say it's not your fault for people's opinions on the squeaking, because you do it much better than a lot of suiters I've seen. Just be weary of how doing it constantly for an hour straight may get a little tiresome. But if it's part of an act, and you use it in moderation, I say go for it! :)
I -LOVE- autotune.. But that does make sense, nobody does it like T-Pain does x3
(mind you I'm not an authority to give this opinion as I don't watch tv, listen to the radio, and none of the music I frequently listen to has autotune in it, but... you know what I mean). :3
[Also, THE THING did not approve this message. This tiger's opinions do not represent THE THING or THE THING's affiliates]
But just remember, if ever you get into a challenge of squeek dominance, you can destroy them with your powers of imitating R2D2!
Anyways, I wish you luck in what you choose to do about your squeaking. Personally, I think it's cute the way you do it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeahmAtM-UU But I don't think he hated me for it lol
I think it's cool that you squeak because it further definesyour character, but I do see how some people can finde it overkill. For instance when you talk it is sort of frustrating when we can't understand what you say most of the time, but we feel we should, that may be an instance in which you slow it down, and maybe you could even act out what it is you're saying. The only other thing is that too many people are trying to squeak as well but they are just squeaking to squeak and that's annoying (and I'll admit I do it to, only at work and school where I confuse the hell out of people ^^)
That's all I have to say other than whatever floats your boat, i think the squeaks are cool.
Oh and any comments as to when we might be able to see acrobatic Skroy?
I'm goin' for B. I absolutely adore your squeakynesss. <3
It's what also angered me so much with people that told me that as a fursuiter I'm not to speak... Who is the "fursuiting authority" and has the rules anyway?? I thought the whole idea was for us to be unique and just enjoy and have fun at what we do.
So yeah, I say a big healthy B!!! squeak til your hear's content. :D
*hugs*
*hughugs*
You make the squeaker work for ya, Skroy, I say keep it. :) Its not you that needs to get rid of it :P
squeek all ya want dude *tiger hugs*
Also, you're awesome.
As far as the three options, I'd say not to go with what anyone says, but what you feel is more right. I find it cute and it's another way to express yourself and communicate with people. (:
Thus, I'd say a balance between B and C.
what a discussion :)
squeak squeak squeak!
you're not the first
you certainly won't be the last.
do what YOU want, and give your character the things YOU want it to have.
if it annoys people or whatever, that's their hangup. there's plenty of worse things to get upset at fursuiters for than squeaking for crying out cloud.
Nah Im just messing with ya. A mix of B and C would be good. From what Ive seen you do it for cuteness and it works. Im sure theres some people who get annoyed. I would only get annoyed if you did it out of suit or I had a hangover.
Now, someone like or Kiro? You know when to do it, and you make it adorable.
and if you cut down, well, around me squeak my ears off because I absolutely love it! ♥
