As some of you might have noticed, I haven't really been on FA during the last 3 weeks. Since the reasons for this absence wouldn't interest anyone, let me just say that I probably won't be able to visit FA for another 3 or 4 weeks.
You know, drawing anthro pictures is neat but if you look at the whole field of art, it's not really anything more than a very, very specialized area in there. Being able to draw awesome anthros doesn't mean you're able to draw, for example humans, just as well. You could spend dozens of years drawing nothing else than anthros but then again, is there really a good reason for doing so? At some point you might be able to perfectly draw and color some sexy anthros but instead you could also focus on a much broader field which would mean you wouldn't only be able to draw anthros.
Conclusion: I feel that I've done enough in this area for now and instead I should start working on the areas in which I really need to improve. I'm starting to get a little annoyed by drawing anthros and the fact that people here seem to think that a picture is only good if it's more about yiffing than about being a good-looking picture. I know that this is what FA mainly is about but... somehow it's really starting to annoy me. Thus, I'll stop commenting on or faving pictures which I feel only serve the purpose of containing yiff or pr0n and nothing else. There's already enough of that type of stuff around and I'm honestly getting tired of it. No matter how many hundreds of favs those pictures get, it's basically all the same.
I'm sorry for not having replied to anyones comments, notes or artwork during the last few weeks, gonna catch up on that as soon as I'm back again before leaving this place for good at some point later this year.

Yeah, I know what you mean and it has been bugging me too for some time now. Recently I've drawn pretty rarely anything since there is only a limited number of pics you can do about the same subject before you get bored. Don't get me wrong, I do love drawing anthros and weres in the buff every now and then since I find nice bodies to be beautiful. But let's face it, it's not really inspirating in the long run. Too bad that I haven't got the inspiration to draw anything else either ;P So what I've been doing lately includes mostly staring at the empty paper.
I dunno what I should do really. I do love drawing but nothing has given me the same spark that nude anthros have given. ( I'm a sad person yes I know ;P )
Imagination would be a nice thing to have. You seem to have it so broadening your skills to other areas is only natural.

of course, you really can't police all the general comments outside of mature submission threads without a special system, but there's still more they could do about it now.
and my sentiments are with you... most of the way. if you observe the creative world of the furry fandom right now, you'll notice how most of it's really........ barren. the occasional good independent comic, web comics, and PORN. and no one's creating anything original. there's NOTHING to be excited about. is it any reason why people just don't give a shit anymore about good art in the furry fandom? there's no context, no industry, no market for it. no one really feels like thinking outside the box, 'cuz there's no money to be made. :P
it pisses me off greatly that i feel compelled to draw porn just to attract attention in this sex-starved fandom.
and i would say more, but i've somehow gotten myself distracted by four different IMs and a torrent i gotta keep an eye on. >_<; but i'm with you, comrade! my sentiments are with you!
I don't know... You mention humans like it's a random example...but it's not. People who draw humans are never asked why they don't draw anything else even if they are actually very limited beyond figure art. Anthro artists, on the other hand, get asked this one a lot. Mmm... Yet...this assumes that humans are inherently superior to anthros, which is, oddly enough, an argument I hear even from people who do 99% anthro art. Is it true though? If so, how? Because it is a reflection of reality? Why would artists who specialize in fantasy art, as some do, be obliged to reflect reality anyway though? Just because?
I mean, in cartooning, we place a lot of emphasis on figures...but that too is just one specialized area of art. Scenery,..still life work..abstracts...those are all art too, yet we don't ask why we don't draw that stuff...we only ask why we don't draw more humans. Sometimes, I wonder about that. I also to wonder why you keep coming back to this idea that drawing a wider range of subject matter somehow means that, by default, you have to almost completely drop anthros. I don't see why an artist can't do both anthros and other things. They are not exclusive fields of endeavor.
Some people only draw backgrounds and never do figures at all, humans or otherwise. Are they "bad artists"? I don't think so. Degas only drew ballerinas...yeah he COULD do more, but the fact is, he didn't. I don't hold it against him though...that's what he wanted to draw. So whatever. I don't think the whole point of art is to learn how to mimic every subject matter on the earth.
Being a well rounded artist is nice and all. But none of us are OBLIGED to draw any particular subject to "prove" how well rounded we are, whether that subject is anthros OR humans. Yes, if you have aspirations for doing art commercially, that's another matter and you have no choice but to be well rounded as a matter of making yourself a viable rendering alternative for a business.
But I suggest that, beyond that, humans are not necessarily the ultimate subject matter. We should all be free to draw whatever our muse leads us to. I know this leaves many artists feeling insecure about their place in the wider art world, whether they draw general fantasy art or anthros specifically...but if anthros are not everything in art, having a sense of belonging in that art world and making money off of art are not everything either. Art can and does serve different purposes for different artists.
As for FA..I respect well-drawn porn as a form of art..I DO find a lot of pictures which feature sickening fetishes, hybrids and orgies. These pictures don't really give me anything and I think that the people who draw them are probably frustrated, even if I respect their right to post anything up here apart from pedophilia. However, I must say that I, as a non-furry and not even artist, strictly speaking, found a lot of feedback and comments on my stuff, so it means that there are a lot of people who don't want porn only and want to see the rest. I've also seen an increase in the 'general audience' submissions. So, I think that there are a lot of open-minded people around here and human art would be well received.

manche sachen werden sehr beliebt - obwohl sie grottig gemalt sind , das einzige was zählt ist der yiff- faktor.
Allerdings muss ich sagen dass, das malen von Anthros mich auch beim malen von Menschen weitergebracht hat.
Sogar sehr viel weiter, ich hab mich seither erst richtig mit schatten etc. befasst. Für mich ist das malen von Anthros einfach Freizeit - Hobby. und der rest eher ARbeit. Was nicht heißt das es mir weniger viel spaß macht.

I agree, anthro art is specialized, and certainly shouldn't be all someone draws. And porn, well, I'll avoid that rant.
I have no reason to be long winded, but I will repeat myself. You rock, best wishes, and hope I can see what you're up to from time to time.
