New HP

SO... even though I got this computer in working order again, I went ahead and got a new HP. 17" screen, 4GB ram, 320GB storage, plus an added GB ram for graphics. I got a pretty decent deal on it, saved $170 on it and there's a $50 mail in rebate.
So... anybody got any pearls of wisdom to share with me about Windows7? I haven't even started setting it up or anything. (Got yard work ta do.)
As for this ol' beast I'm on now, I'm keeping it for a travel companion/backup. I'll clean everything out of it aside from the basics, clean, tune, and other stuffs.

Just an idea and your used to the old set up anyways...

One thing I can said about Window 7 is that's what Window Vista supposed to be.
I think the most distinctive thing about 7 (and Vista) is its format to organize files.
Now files are sorted on the left hand side tap "LIbraries" - Sub folders like "Documents" "Music" "Pictures" "Videos". The are usually under directory like "D:\Users\Rocko"
What you can do is to have someone to make a new partition (D: Drive or E Drive) from the same piece of hard drive that only have C: Make the D partition large enough that there will only be 50 GiG on C. So C drive keeps essential programs like Window 7, graphic driver and stuff. D drive for games and all these files mentioned above.
The reason you want to do that is that Window 7 tends to create an invisible folder under "User/Rocko (or whatever the name)" This folder is called "AppData" and usually contains registry or even saved files from various program. And this would grow big over time. Thats why you want to set the "USER" folder in a new partition.
Here's the really important part. You want to have some means to recover your computer to previous state. Either via Norton Ghost or something build in in Window 7. Since somone gave me a really useful boot up CD that contains Norton Ghost, I cannot speak for your situation fully. But I hope these are something you can think about.
Keep Malwarebytes updated and run it once a week (in addition to something like Norton).
