In need of some computer help...
Here's what happened: When I started up my computer yesterday, the settings for my screen's resolution and refresh rate were off. Then, when I checked the display settings, I noticed the screen's ( ASUS VW192 G ) native resolution ( 1440 by 900 pixels ) was no longer available - It did, however, provide me with some funky new resolution choices, that weren't available before. Now, using the screen at anything but its ideal, native resolution, results in fairly poor output, so naturally I'd like to restore it's former resolution and performance as quickly as possible.
I already tried re-installing the graphics drivers ( about half a dozen times ), but to no avail. Couldn't find anything helpful on-line, either, and I'm running out of ideas. I'd really appreciate if some of you could offer any potential solutions to the problem.
So far I figured out that the screen itself seems to be fine. I'm currently using it at a lower resolution ( 1280 by 720 ) and I don't notice any problems. ( The output isn't blurry or de-formed, either, so at least it seems to be the same ratio as 1440 by 900. Edit: Not badly de-formed, anyway. XD ) All things considered, I'm pretty certain it's a software problem, but I'm not sure what else I could try to fix it.
Anyhow, thanks in advance for any help on this issue!

Edit: I think I should add that I've been using this screen for a few months now, at its native resolution of 1440x900, and without any difficulties. So I know the screen, as well as my computer, can handle that resolution.
P.S.: News from the art front and some actual content to follow later, hopefully, once I have this figured out. :3

Make sure the screen refresh rate is 60 Hertz as well otherwise that might restrict your choices as well.
You can see this if you right-click on your desktop, select properties, click on the settings tab, and then the advanced button. Click on the "monitor" tab to see the current selection. This is also where the "hide modes" option is.
You can also go to the Device Manager and uninstall the monitor driver (NOT the display adapter driver). When you reboot it should reset back to the default.
I went through pretty much all of the basic procedures already - Checked all of the settings, un-installed/ re-installed the graphics drivers, and just about anything else I could think of - But so far, without success. I'll check the menus again, though, to see if there's anything I missed.
If you have XP you could try to restore to an earlier date also, that sometimes works. The last thing I can think of is you could uninstall your monitor from the device manager then refresh the device manager by right clicking and clicking "refresh" it should then recognize your monitor correctly.
Anyway, when you go Display Properties, on the monitor section, does it say something like (Monitor) on (Adapter) format? Generally speaking, if everything is good, it would either say like, "Plug and Play Monitor on (Adapter) model". If the Adapter is "Standard VGA Adapter" then you have a driver problem. Your color should look natural as well. Instead of a 16, 256 color, you should be able to handle 16, 24 and 32-bit depth colors as a selection.
If reinstalling adapter driver does not resolve your problem, you MIGHT have a hardware problem. Best option is have the OS reinstalled fresh. Restore points will only screw it up more.
In my past experiences on cases like this, 95% is hardware failure.
About the resolution... modern monitors will report to the graphic card of what resolution, refreshing rate does it support, therefore the adapter will adjust accordingly.
BTW, if you grab the latest driver from the manufacturer's website, that might solve the problem.
1)As all sayd here-driver for monitor(you should have it when you buy your monitor or download it from web)
2)Refresh your VIDEO card driver,or reinstall.
Check more closly your versions of hardware and blah blah
lalalala.I hope your comp will be okay.
Rock it!
Good luck!
See if your current monitor is the primary or secondary.
I have never heard of this situation before... I have had older PC's crash on me for tinkering with resolutions, since I exceeded the VRAM, but this is suprising... Best bet is to uninstall driver, reinstall, then remove hardware from PC and reinstall if that is a option...
idk for sure, but it is a try...

Reboot, then try again with those video drivers. :) If that doesn't work then it is not a GPU driver issue, it's the OS or some recently installed program or software.

but like said marinusfur , nothing special for troubleshoots...
If doing a clean install/re-detection doesn't work.. check the cable. =) I just know how stupid that sounds, but that was it for me once - the damn cable I used to connect the monitor was some cheap crap and was kinda busted after a few months. Might be worth just getting a new. (They're not that expensive, but go for the good stuff anyway..)
It could be your monitor and your resolution is closely too high.
Your monitor settings >Setup>Advanced>Monitor and check your Refresh Rate and Monitor Type Etc.
Check your Adapter Type and try Viewing >List All Modes
Can also try to see if theres an Update for your driver whether if the latest if 2005 or whatever.
Also i agree with Kougar because of the left over driver folders even though they are uninstalled.
