Of hamster balls, confetti and crowdsurfing horses.

The other night, my dear roommate, several of his friends, myself and my boyfriend took a once in a lifetime trip to see The Flaming Lips, live in concert at the Edmonton Events Centre. Now, normally I don't post detailed recollections of my concert experiences, BUT...
This concert was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Quote from the fantastic Mr. Wayne Coyne: 'You are the greatest audience! You treat the balloons like they're giant balls from outer space, and the confetti like it just was shot out of a dragon's ass or something!' (Paraphrasing!)
The concert started with a psychedelic background screen of a naked women with the colours inverted and warped, dancing until she finally leaned back and her vagina became a GLOWING SPACE PORTAL. OUT OF WHICH THE BAND MEMBERS WALKED THROUGH. Other images onscreen included a women eating toast and poking eggs while in a swimming pool, a woman in glasses singing to Do You Realize?? with colourful orange glowing spheres passing across her face. There was not a single sober person in our group, so the concert is not going to be well described. I remember every inch of it, but could not possibly put everything into words.
There were GIANT colourful balloons and confetti and streamers; the audience bouncing the balloons around the crowd. A streamer somehow wrapped itself around my hand and I still have no real recollection of how it got there. The lead singer climbed into an inflatable hamster ball and rolled around on top of the audience!! At another point he was on the shoulders of someone in a bear costume. There were two people with horse heads on who were crowdsurfing for most of the show (there were SO many people dressed up; two of the people in our group had Cinco du Mayo/Day of the Dead style facepaint on, my roommate had a pink feather boa, his friend had a fluffy turquoise feathery hair...thingy), there was someone dressed in a pink bunny costume (and I went up to him after the show and hugged him! it was the fuzziest, warmest hug I have ever received! <3), during the song Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, two people in pure white outfits, sunglasses, fuzzy white hats (one with pink glowing fuzzy deelyboppers), just walked through the crowd past us. I was mesmerized by the last two especially; I spent a long time staring after them. I even talked to the guy with the pink bouncy headband for awhile after the show!
Afterwards, we all made our way to Blues on Whyte (skeezy looking little place with AMAZING music), and danced and listed to Sonny Rhodes; all of us got a CD signed by him. :D
Disclaimer: Skip if you hate mushy stuff.
One last thing, because for the first time in my life, I have no reason to be self-conscious, no reason to worry about anything, and something amazing happened near the end of the concert that changed my life; even changed the core of my being. They tell you about when you're with someone, and everything else around you just...disappears? Well, it's true.
When the song Do You Realize?? came on, I turned to Drae and we danced. Slowly dancing across the floor, with confetti in our hair, and everything, except for the music and ourselves, melted away. People moved slower and slower until they finally came to a stop. The only ones in the world were Drae and I. Nothing else in the world mattered except to sing that song to the man that has come into my life and changed everything. To look into his beautiful blue eyes and sing from the bottom of my heart and soul, 'do you realize, you have the most beautiful face?', and to be held, really HELD. Our souls leapt from our bodies and joined in the most blissful dance possible.
GOODNIGHT.
