Kimba vs Simba

Ok, this is pretty much gonna be me getting something out of my system. So if you don't wanna read it, don't.
I am sick and tired of the The Lion King vs Kimba the White Lion controversy. For those of you who don't know, there's a controversy going around that The Lion King is a ripoff of an old anime show called Kimba the White Lion. Do I believe it? Hell no! Do people realise that it's possible for something to be similar to something else without it being a ripoff?
"Lord of the Rings" shares some similarities with "Chronicles of Narnia"! I mean, they're both about little people (hobbits or children) being whisked away from a down to earth setting (The Shire or England) to free a magical world (Middle Earth or Narnia) from an opressive ruler (Sauron or The White Witch). Along the way, they are protected by a powerful, wise figure (Gandalph or Aslan), who dies and comes back later to utterly destroy the armies of the enemy. Also, both LOTR and Narnia have eagles! And in both of them, the main characters have their faith in each other tested severely! And both of them include a character who betrays the heroes, almost to their doom!(Gollum or Edmund) Now, does this mean that one is a ripoff of the other? Of course it doesn't! All it means is that the two share coincidental similarities because they're both inspired by the same thing (Christianity).
The Lion King was based off of Hamlet. In fact, it's on Rotten Tomatoes' list of the top best Shakespearian movies of all time. How do we know that Kimba the White Lion isn't also based off of Hamlet? It's not far fetched to imagine such a thing. Hamlet is, after all, probably the second most popular story from the best writer who ever lived. So is it really hard to imagine that an old tv show might base itself off of it? And even if the makers of Kimba didn't base the show off of Hamlet, the makers of The Lion King did for their movie, and the similarities are just coincidental. Sure, it's a weird coincidence. But of all the shows ever produced in the world, if you can't find one show that's coincidentally similar to a Disney movie that was made afterward, you aren't looking hard enough.
And I know what some people will say: "Come on, Chinchy. Even the main characters have almost the exact same name. Simba and Kimba. Come on!" Yeah, do you realise that Simba is Swahili for "lion"? Disney named almost every character in The Lion King by using a Swahili word. Scar and Ed are the only exceptions. So again, one didn't rip off the other, they both probably took inspiration from the same source.
So in other words, can it about Simba vs Kimba, enjoy a good movie and stop looking for controversy in every little nook and cranny of every fuckin thing!

You're confusing "rip off" with "buy out" and "adapt books" and "reinterpret old stories". They are not the same things.
