I … Have … RETURNED XD
Indeed I have, I got back in around 11:15 last night. WOW what a weekend. We left Thursday at 7 am, wasn’t fond of the 7 hour trip but we arrived and it was hot. Fallon’s normal this time a year I guess is in the 60’s -70’s area, no 100. Well set up camp and enjoyed some shooting friends company. Well Friday was the first day of the World Championship and at the opening shooters meeting they announced that there were 176 shooters for the weekend (the biggest in Cowboy Fast Draw history).
Now for those who I have never explained this to here is the low down. We shoot 45. single action six shooter guns. We shoot at a 2 foot, in diameter, target form a distance of 21 feet. When the command “Shooters Set” is given you prepare for the light in the middle of the target to come on (are sign to pull and shoot). We stand with our hands on the handle our thumb on the hammer but our trigger finger away from the trigger. Each round is between you and the guy next to you. You load 5 shoots max and the best 3 out of 5 shoots wins the round. So if I hit 3 times and the other guy misses I win or I we both hit it comes down to who hit faster, if you lose you get a X.
World’s was a 4 X layout, meaning once you lost 4 rounds you where out of the game. Well the first day we shoot 7 rounds and I only got two X on round 6 & 7, so I got to shoot the next day, which is a big achievement. They had a social gathering where guitars, fun and yes some alcohol was to be found.
The next day I got my next to X’s and ended up placing 48th overall, it might sound low but that’s over half way, remember 176 shooters O.o, I was quite please with it. The rest of the day I BSed and tock pictures. That night was the banquet and more fun prizes and of course alcohol (well for those who brought it)
On Sunday they had the shoot for the categories (didn’t quite make it in to mine) and also a thing they call Blast for Cash. BfC is where they take your fastest shoot and put you against others that shoot around the same time for a cash prize. It is a 1 X (no room for slip ups there) best 2 out of 3 shoots. I was able to do that. There where 12 in my time range. I won my first round and because it was 1 X half the people where now gone so only 6 remained. I shoot and one my second and realized holy crap that means only 3 left, I was guaranteed at least 3rd (which means $$$ XD) so it ended up being a bi-round meaning all 3 people go up and who ever hits first gets to sit down and the other two battle it out. Well I won it, which meant I could do no less then second, holy smokes. So it was down to me and the other guy, two shoots fired two dots on one target, that target was mine O.o holy (words that can’t be uttered around small children) I WON 1st place $250. Well when they were shooting the final men and ladies it down pored on us. Well when it was only lightly raining they kept shooting. After all was said and done and the awards where handed out I drove home and a great weekend was had.
