Interesting the British/American dialect question came up. I made the odd choice of using American grammar and spelling while using British vocabulary and dialogue in my book, in part because the settings are roughly analogous to an Anglophone 1930s Europe and the U.S.

Most notably, I threw in the word "perspex" instead of "plexiglass."

Also, kudos to K.M. Hirosaki for mentioning "The Dark Is Rising." I remember that book, but I've mentioned it to several others and no one else seemed to have heard of it!

That makes at least two more of us who adore that series. It was a great read, and I still remember some of the vivid imagery depicted.
